A wonderful panel discussion made even more meaningful by our student teachers!

A big thank you to our MET/MELM students for leading an engaging panel discussion at the Student Research Symposium, May 2026.

Our moderator, Zaina Ahmed Hameed, and panelists Fathimath Zuha Hamdhoon, Aishath Hidhna Ali, and Aishath Ashfa Ali brought thought, preparation, and confidence to an important conversation on school truancy and student disengagement. They approached a complex issue from multiple perspectives, raised important questions, and offered thoughtful insights into how schools can better understand and support students who disengage from education.

It was especially rewarding to see our students step beyond the classroom and take ownership of such an important professional conversation as emerging educators. These are the discussions that encourage us to look more closely at the realities students face and reflect on how educators and schools can respond more meaningfully.

Well done to the team, and thank you for making the panel such an engaging and worthwhile experience. 👏
