After 33 wonderful years, it is with a heartfelt yet firm decision that I announce the closing of La Pralinette classes at the end of April 2026. This is a final decision made with peace, happiness, and no regret.
What started long ago as a simple request from a group of friends asking me to teach them pastry and cooking became the beginning of an unexpected and meaningful career. It was meant to be a simple help between friends, yet it soon grew into a lifelong mission built on dedication, commitment, and the pleasure of sharing knowledge, shaping skills, and inspiring generations of students.
For more than three decades, I have had the privilege of teaching cookery and pastry to thousands of people. It fills me with pride to see many of my former students today as professional pastry chefs, successful business owners, and respected names in pastry shops and restaurants across Mauritius. Others have become talented creators of custom orders, while some have even become teachers themselves. Many of my students are now building their careers in different parts of the world, and their success remains one of the greatest rewards of this career.
Throughout this remarkable chapter of my life, I have had the privilege of meeting people from many walks of life, and it has been truly enriching. My students know that La Pralinette offered something truly special.
It was never only about learning pastry and cookery. Some students came to build a skill, others for the pleasure of a hobby, to step away from daily routine, or to find encouragement during challenging times. Along the way, friendships were created, genuine human connections were formed, and some even left deeply moved after living moments they would never forget.
La Pralinette also became known for its unique way of teaching, where theory and practice went hand in hand, and every student prepared their own recipe. At times, managing 20 students in one class, each working on different dishes and cakes, was both demanding and beautiful to witness. Seeing everyone leave satisfied, then return to the next class sharing how their families had loved what was prepared at La Pralinette, brought a deep sense of fulfilment. Quality, discipline, and passion were present in every single class.
From the bottom of my heart, I thank every student who trusted me, supported me, and became part of this remarkable story. My greatest pride is to leave behind a lasting legacy, and I know that for many, the spirit of La Pralinette will always be remembered.
After a lifetime devoted to teaching and sharing, I now look forward to a new chapter filled with peace, rest, and treasured moments with my family.
With all my gratitude,
Miss Fidou
