Get prepared for year 2022

Accounting exams will start tomorrow.

Some guidelines:

1. Read the instructions.
2. Plan your time before you start.
3.Tackle the easiest questions first.
4. Finish off answering each question when your time allocation for the question is up.
5.Hand in all your workings.
6. Do remember to be neat, also include all proper headings, dates, sub-totals, etc. A lot of marks can be lost if you don’t.
7.Only answer as many questions as you are asked to tackle by the examiner. Extra answers will not normally be marked and certainly won’t get credit.
8.Underline the key words in each question to ensure that you answer the question set, and not the question you wrongly take it to be.
9.Never write out the text of essay questions.

Best of luck with your examination.

Coping with failure

During the recent years, the number of young people making wrong and irreversible decision has been rising partly because the educational system is mostly about passing and winning; It tends to ignore the reality of life and does not teach students how to bounce back and move forward when things go wrong.

A teacher should not limit himself to the language of excellent results and success only as we all know that in reality there are times that we make mistakes. Things may go wrong – and sometimes badly. We may get rejected from jobs that we apply for. We may fail exams or get fired. And our proposals may get turned down or our projects end in failure.

Students should also be taught to accept and recover from setbacks, get unstuck and prepare for the future without losing hope.

Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising every time we fail.

Dear Parents/students/Education Lovers

‘’What gets measured gets done’’ Peter Drucker, a brilliant management theorist.

Key Performance Indicators are generally used in organization to ensure that things are going in the right direction to achieve the objectives that have been set.

The same technique can be used to monitor the performance of students all throughout the year. It means regular measurement and reporting keeps them focused — because the tutor can use that information to make decisions to improve results. Performance indicator is a useful tool to diagnose strengths and weaknesses of students, take remedial actions and ensure they are heading in the direction of excellent results.

The Time-Factor

Even the most hard-working & well-prepared students sometimes fail to get good marks if they don't manage their time properly in the exam hall. Managing your time effectively in the exam is critical to success.

Effective time management starts as you are walking to your desk in the exam hall. e.g.: For the structured written paper (paper 2 - 105mins - 100 marks), you should be prepared to allocate 1 minute or less to each mark. The paper is made up of 35% of evaluation & analysis- So, don't allow yourself to become bogged-down in the less easy parts of the paper.

In the light of the above, it is crucial to do a maximum of past exam questions under exam time-constrained condition.

Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Dear Parents/Students/Education lovers

This follows my first post where we noted that in year 2016 only 38% of the students taking part to SC examination have been able to get a credit.

The first reason that might explain this poor performance is the change in the syllabus and examination format which was done to equip students for success in the modern economic and business contexts. The syllabus & examination are structured in a way that learners can attain both practical skills and theoretical knowledge. This forms an ideal foundation for further study and a future career within the profession. Students are now expected to evaluate & analyse accounting scenarios and 35 – 40% of the marks are allocated to the demonstration of these abilities.

Consequently, the preparation of the students must be adapted accordingly to unlock their potential with appropriate teaching skills and strategies.
