Somewhere, we have got it wrong. In essence, a teacher is someone who teaches and improves by doing so. In the post industrialisation era, we have started to quantify what is good teaching or no and this has led to such a poor state of things. Where do we go from here?

Know what is important and what's not
Focus on few things
Give teachers the freedom to be creative and open. Create such a culture.
Trust the teachers like we used to.

As we look forward to our graduation ceremony this evening, we would like to congratulate our amazing IBDP students on successfully completing their exams and reaching this momentous point in your educational journey!

Your dedication, perseverance, and hard work throughout the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme have been truly inspiring. We are immensely proud of each and every one of you!

As our IBDP students prepare to embark on their next chapter, we are also looking forward to our IBMYP students’ Personal Project Exhibition, which is just around the corner. This event showcases the innovative and creative projects our students have been working on, highlighting their diverse talents and interests.

At Northfields, we are proud to be a fully authorised IB World School for both the MYP and the DP and that through these programmes, we are able to offer a globally recognised and rigorous education that fosters critical thinking, inquiry-based learning and intercultural understanding. Our commitment to the principles and practices of these International Baccalaureate programs enables our students to develop the 21st century skills needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Being knowledgeable

Einstein once said that if you can't explain it in a simple way, it means that you don't understand it well enough. As teachers, it's very important to keep learning, evaluating and deepening our understanding of pedagogy, subject knowledge and reflecting on our role as teachers and a member of the community.

Reflecting on what we are doing helps us to not get stuck into a certain routine. There's nothing more boring than doing something and not knowing where we are going. It's like driving a car without a GPS or going on a trip without a map. I constantly think about what I do and what I can do better as there's nothing worse than getting into one's comfort zone. Here are some questions which you can use to evaluate your day:

1. What was my best moment today, and how can I have more moments like it?

2. What was my most challenging moment and why? How did I respond to that challenging moment?

3. Were my students excited to be in class? If not, how can I inspire them?

4. How was my mood with others today?

5. In what ways did my students surprise me today?

6. How did I support my colleagues today, and how will I continue to do so?

7. What are the biggest obstacles to improving my practice and how will I overcome them?

8. What did I do for myself today, and why is this important?

9. What do I want everyone to be able to say about me at the end of the day tomorrow?

10. Was the activity we did in class successful? Why or why not?
