🍉 EAT LOCAL, SAVE THE PLANET! 🌍

Did you know food travels further than most of us on holiday? Eating fresh, local food means fewer planes and trucks polluting our air—shrinking our carbon footprint one tasty bite at a time!

Right now in sunny August, Malta’s markets are bursting with sweet, super-local treats.

What’s on Nature’s Menu This August?

🍉 Watermelon: Giant, super-hydrating, and the undisputed king of summer!

🍈 Sweet Melons: Cantaloupes and honeydews so sweet they smell like candy.

🍑 Peaches & Plums: Dripping with sticky, sunny goodness (grab a napkin!).

🌵 Prickly Pears: Nature’s spiky surprise—watch those fingers!

🌿 Santa Marija Figs: Soft, sweet, and only around for a short time.

🐟 FRESH LAMPUKI: The superstar fish is officially back in town as of August 15th!

Next time you’re hungry, skip the far-away snacks and crunch into what’s growing right here in Malta. Your tummy—and the planet—will thank you! 😋

🦇 The Dark Knight Returns… to the Wild! 🦇

Remember Bruce, the tiny baby bat who took a tumble down a building shaft in Qala, Gozo?

After his mum couldn't be found, our team stepped in. For 7 weeks, Bruce ate his superhero snacks, grew strong wings, and practiced his moves.

Last night, he did a quick warm-up crawl on his blanket, flew one cheeky victory lap around the team, and zoomed off into the night sky! 🌌
Fly, fly free, Bruce! 🖤

🚨 Quick Wildlife Reminders:
Please just look, don't touch: Wild animals like bats, hedgehogs, and turtles are protected by law and can't be kept as pets!

Come say hi: Visit our animal patients at the Xrobb L-Għaġin Rehab Centre! Entrance is free (donations welcome), but booking is required at ✉️ [email protected].

💚 Huge Thanks: To the kind public who called him in, our amazing vets, and our dedicated rescue volunteers.

Malta isn’t just sun, sea, and limestone; it’s also a wildlife paradise with hidden treasures🦎🌿”
Tiny island? Zero giant rivers? Yes. but represents strong biodiversity:
• 🐾 4,500+ species (without marine life) of land plants and animals recorded.
• 🏝️ About 85 endemic species found in Malta, a "unique wonder”.
• 🐛 Insects and invertebrates rule the roost (they outnumber the people).
• 🦇 Urban roommates: Bats, shrews, and reptiles thriving right alongside the busy towns.
• 🦅 A 5-star rest stop for migratory birds traveling between continents.
Don't need wonders to appreciate nature —Maltese local bees, Hedgehogs, Sandarac Gum Trees, and the national Blue Rock Thrush are doing the heavy lifting right in the inland’s backyard.
Nature doesn't care about Km². Let’s protect our wild side! 💚

🎉 Festa, Fun & Fun, Not Food in the Bin! 🌭🎺
Say No, No, and No to Food Waste.
Festa season is here! That means marching bands, fireworks, and way too much delicious food.
But before your extra pastizzi or pasta end up in the bin, remember: Food is for sharing, not for landfill monsters!
Share your food with a friend, neighbour, or your pet (if safe!)—nobody says "no" to free treats. 😉
🧠 Quick Food Facts (That Stun!):
• 🌍 1/5 of all food in the world gets wasted—that’s about 1 billion tonnes a year!
• 🏠 60% of that comes straight from our homes. (Oops!)
• ☁️ Rotting food creates smelly methane gas, driving up to 10% of global greenhouse gases.
• 💧 Wasting food also wastes huge amounts of fresh water, energy, and land used to grow it—while millions of people still go hungry in the world.
🍌 Turn Trash into Treasure: COMPOST!
🦸 3 Easy Steps to Be a Food Hero:
1. 📝 Plan like a boss: Check the fridge and stick to your shopping list.
2. 🧊 Store like a pro: Use airtight tubs, freeze extras, and put "eat-me-soon" snacks right at the front!
3. 🌱 Feed the soil: Turn peels and cores into plant power instead of landfill mush.

Don’t Feed the Locals! 🐢🐬🚫🥪
Turtles and dolphins already know how to order lunch—from the sea, not from your sandwich! 🌊
Human snacks can make them sick and ruin their wild ways. They’re ocean pros, not picnic guests. 🏝️
Be a super sea buddy: 🦸
• 👀 Watch from a distance (no selfie stick needed!)
• ✋ Hands off—they’re not cuddly toys
• 🤫 Quiet, please! Whisper mode on
• 🗣️ Spot a friend breaking the rules? Kindly remind them: Educate them: “Hey, let the ocean stars shine!” ✨
Remember: they’re part of our eco world, just like you—so treat them with respect, not snacks. 🌍💚
Injured or distressed turtle or dolphin? Call for backup:

Keep the ocean wild. Keep the snacks for you! 🌊💙

👕♻️ Don’t let your old clothes become part of the landfill!
That T-shirt you’re tired of? It might still have a second life! 😄

Reuse. Repair. Donate. Recycle.

Fashion doesn’t have to be a one-way street! 🌍💚
👚 Fast fashion is quick to buy, quick to replace!

💧 Did you know? Making just one cotton T-shirt can use about 2,700 litres of water—that’s a LOT of water for one shirt! 😲
🌍 The textile industry produces about 10% of global carbon emissions each year.

So, before you throw it away, ask: “Can my old clothes get a second chance?” 😉♻️
Every piece we keep in circulation is one less in a landfill. 🌱

🦔 Laura the Hedgehog is back in the wild! 🌾
When Laura was rescued in Qala, Gozo, she was tiny and couldn't survive on her own. But after lots of care (and dealing with her very picky eating habits! 🐛🥕), she grew big and strong. Now, she’s back hiding under the shrubs where she belongs!
Did you know? Hedgehogs are a protected species in Malta! It is illegal to harm them or keep them as pets, but our trained volunteers have special permits to rescue them safely.
🔍 How you can help wild animals like Laura:
• 🚫 Never try to keep wild animals as pets.
• 📞 If you spot an injured wild animal, call the Wildlife Rescue Team Malta on 99999505!
• 🐢 Visit Us: You can see turtles and hedgehogs at our Rehab Centre in Xrobb L-Għaġin! Entrance is free (donations welcome), but booking is required. Email [email protected] to book your visit!
