👀A look inside the booklet: Gaġġa : imsejjes fuq ir-rumanz ta' Frans Sammut.
In 1971, director Mario Philip Azzopardi adapted the acclaimed 1971 novel "Gaġġa" for the big screen, with its official release following shortly after. This movie needs no introduction, as it remains permanently etched in history as the first-ever feature film made entirely in the Maltese language, featuring legendary actors such as Karmen Azzopardi and Charles Arrigo.
Sammut and Azzopardi managed to break away from traditional forms to give the Maltese public a shocking, honest, and powerful reflection of society at the time. It is a legacy that still resonates and is studied to this very day!
Fl-1971 stess (u maħruġ uffiċjalment ftit wara), id-direttur Mario Philip Azzopardi addatta dan ir-rumanz għall-iskrin kbir taħt l-isem "Gaġġa". Dan il-film m'għandux bżonn introduzzjoni għax jibqa' mnaqqax fl-istorja bħala l-ewwel feature film magħmul kollu kemm hu bil-Malti, fejn ħadu sehem atturi kbar bħal Karmen Azzopardi u Charles Arrigo. Sammut u Azzopardi rnexxielhom jiksru l-forom tradizzjonali biex jagħtu lill-poplu Malti rifless xokkanti, onest u b'saħħtu tas-soċjetà ta' dak iż-żmien. Legat li għadu jidwi u jiġi studjat sal-lum!
