STAFF ACTIVITIES AND COLLABORATION

Dr Jeremy Coleman has composed music for the mobile-phone video game titled Helen II: Her Story in the Shadows, led by Project Citadel and Classics and Archaeology at UM. A University of Malta collaboration with various international partners, the project is a groundbreaking initiative bringing classical literature to life through digital gaming (the story is based on Homer's Iliad). This innovative game will be cognitively engaging, gender-inclusive, eco-friendly, and anti-war. It will be available in Dutch, English, Maltese, Polish, and Ukrainian, offering players an educational experience that explores literature, history, creativity, culture, the environment, and economics.

The game will be officially launched on Friday 15th May 2026 at 9am-1pm at Esplora Interactive Science Centre, Villa Bighi, Kalkara. Dr Coleman will be giving a brief talk at the launch and demonstrating parts of the score on piano. The event is free to attend but registration is required via the website: https://www.um.edu.mt/events/citadel2026/?fbclid=IwY2xjawRqaexleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETBKa1F3dnB2cmdaWHRxcjAyc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHhb5L4W0JkcGcGVsBXqS2Yf2wj2OYTXTimFG17ASZhIpYTCRkAGF4gUEKmPP_aem_EpoZSweXlUlv3KJIvim4Ig

When we return from Easter Break, we're very proud to be hosting a writing workshop with Ed Cooper in collaboration with Kritikarti! The workshop, titled Developing Critique: Three Approaches to Arts Writing, introduces participants to three distinct approaches to critique, each offering a different way of responding to artistic work. Centred on music yet deliberately interdisciplinary, the session moves through three examples that model critical methods, covering artists including Jennifer Walshe, NONOTAK, and Blackhaine. The workshop is designed for anyone interested in expanding their critical vocabulary—writers, artists, musicians, researchers, and curious listeners alike.

16 April 2026, 2pm in OH124—see you there!
