More flight training: another of our regular sessions held at Siggiewi

A one-to-one flight training session with experienced drone instructors is priceless. One will learn various aspects, not just about flying techniques but how to make confident decisions as a drone pilot.

Ideally, this flight training is achieved through one of our courses, the flight training sessions with our instructors will complement your Ground-school knowledge by helping one put into practice the theoretical knowledge and skills learnt.

For the already experienced pilot, MDC also has advanced flight training sessions, geared up at going into the more specific operational needs when operating drones in different industry verticals such as surveying, inspections, etc.

For further information on MDC training courses please contact us at [email protected]

Drone Pilot Flight Training:

Malta Drone Centre in conjunction with Hawk Aerospace Limited, has held its first drone Pilot Flight Training sessions at the drone training facilities. Three candidate drone pilots are attending this Basic Flight Training course led by experience drone instructors which is being held over a number of days at the Hibs ground.

The candidate pilots are learning the skills required to fly multi-rotor drones from basic flight skills to more advanced handling of the drone, flying missions as well as operational and site & risk assessments that are all required for carrying out drone flying and drone operations safely.

With the introduction of the new EASA Drone Regulation plus local drone requirements as defined by the local aviation authorities (TM-CAD), having the appropriate flight and operations training is becoming even more important than before. Also having drone pilots that have been formally trained and their drone competence certified by experienced instructors can open up new doors in the drone services industry.

In fact, in many EU countries as well as in the US etc., having certified drone pilots and operating procedures are becoming a mandatory requirement when companies engage in drone flights and even more so when they engage 3rd party drone service providers.

It is expected that the same will happen locally as companies become more aware of the need for safe drone operations and the potential liabilities arising from such activities.

Drone Operations Session for MCAST:

Malta Drone Centre has held two awareness sessions for students following the Aviation Operations Course at MCAST.

These sessions were held to introduce these students to the various aspects of Drone Operation. Specific objectives for the sessions was to highlight the similarities between traditional aviation and drone operations, the job opportunities to be had in the drone operations as well as how they could utilise the knowledge and skills they are acquiring from MCAST in the drone field.

We would like to take the opportunity to thank the MCAST Institute of Engineering and Transport for helping to organise and facilitate these sessions with the MCAST students.

Anyone interested in having Malta Drone Centre provide similar drone operations awareness or other specific training sessions can contact us on [email protected]

Commercial Drone Pilot Course held in Malta:

Malta Drone Centre in conjunction with Hawk Aerospace Limited, has held its first Commercial Pilot Course. Over eight students attended this tutor lead training course covered the various topics for the General VLOS Certification (GVC) program being run by Malta Drone Centre. Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, the course was held -n-line but will be also held as in-person classroom style once the COVID-19 situations improves sufficiently.

The GVC Course is intended to provide drone pilots and operators with the necessary theoretical, operational, safety and risk management as well as flight skills that are being essential qualifications for drone pilots & operators when providing safe services to both private companies and public government agencies around the world.

This course has been designed to cover and even exceed the pilot and operator competence requirements for the EASA Drone Specific Category requirements and also the UK’s CAA drone GVC certification. The course covers both theoretical topics required by commercial drone and operators but also includes a practical slight and operational assessment component to be able to certify the flight and operational competence of the candidates.
