"Sea City Clam Tower," an art installation by Prof. Benjamin Kidder Hodges and artist Crystal Wai Man Chan, is currently on display in New York as part of the show "Ancestral Echoes: A Decade of Bio Art" a ten-year survey of artworks commemorating the inauguration of the School of Visual Arts' Bio Art Laboratory. Founded by Bio Art pioneer Suzanne Anker, this ‘first of its kind’ lab brings together science and art. "Sea City Clam Tower," which premiered at the "Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2021," combines Chinese mythology about the origin of mirages with traditional oyster farming in Macao and ecological concerns about the region’s future development. These environmental concerns align with the innovative art work and research that the SVA Bio Art Lab has expanded over the last decade.
