the 2026 Unpublished winners IH Yangon-Mandalay

We are delighted to announce that the winners of the 2026 Unpublished competition are three secondary students from IH Yangon-Mandalay: Phone Myat Minn, Kalyarni, and Chit Hsu Paing Oo.

A huge congratulations to these students and the team who supported their entry.

Our winners totally flipped the script on what belongs in a language classroom. By bringing in rap music and the raw storytelling found in crime narratives, they’ve managed to tap into a world that’s incredibly relevant to teens but usually gets ignored by traditional textbooks. It’s bold, it’s necessary, and it’s exactly what the classroom needs.

They will receive a £300 voucher as their prize and all IH schools will get access to their fabulous class materials so they can teach the class in their own school.

I took the IELTS classes at IH Yangon-Mandalay four months prior to the test. At first, I didn’t have much knowledge about IELTS and wasn’t very confident about it.

During my time at IH Yangon-Mandalay's IELTS preparation classes, I had the opportunity to improve my English skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. My teachers provided helpful strategies and regular practice tests, which helped me understand the exam format and manage my time effectively.

In class, I practised preparing before listening to the audio, analysing reading passages, organising ideas for writing tasks and speaking on different topics. We also had mock speaking test sessions, which were particularly helpful because I received feedback that improved my fluency and confidence. In addition, I watched YouTube videos and worked on mock tests to further improve my skills.

With the help of my teachers and regular practice tests, I was able to improve my skills within four months and achieved Band 7 on the test, which exceeded my expectations as a student who was not confident in English.

My name is Yoon Shwe Yee Htun. I took English courses at IH Yangon-Mandalay before going abroad. I completed several English classes there to improve my speaking, listening and overall communication skills. Currently, I am studying abroad at Strategy First University in Thailand.
I chose IH Yangon-Mandalay because it has a good reputation for high-quality English language teaching. The teachers are experienced and professional, and the school provides an international learning environment. I also heard many positive recommendations from students who studied there.

My experience with the online live sessions has been very positive. The teachers explain lessons clearly and encourage students to participate in discussions and activities. The classroom environment is friendly and supportive, which makes learning comfortable and enjoyable. Overall, the online classes are well-organized and very helpful for improving my English skills.

The classes at IH Yangon-Mandalay helped me develop strong communication skills and confidence in using English. I practiced speaking, listening, reading and writing regularly. This preparation made it easier for me to understand lectures, communicate with classmates and adapt to studying in an international environment.
