CROWN CROWN School of Capacity Building & Leadership (Since 2001)

• With the aim to provide educational and social assistance to the young students of the poor and needy families and gross-roots levels, Crown School has been established in June, 2001at North Okkalapa, Yangon as a nonprofit, nonpartisan and independent activist group. Although, it started offering tuition classes with free of charge for matriculation students, it had to gradually involve itself i

n national and political campaigns' and public movements around 2005 such as the emergence of labor unions, protesting forced acquisition of farmland and injustice policies and misconduct by the military regime.

• In August 2007, Crown School introduced a political activist organization "2007 New Generation Students Union" and then in September its actively joined in the country-wide demonstration led by the Buddhist monks (known as Saffron Revolution) struggling against the military ruling.

• In consequence of those movements, the founder of Crown School was sentenced to jail for 19 years in 2007 and the rest other 18 members, who carried on running 2007NGSU activities were also arrested in 2010 and Crown School had to halt it further functions for one year, till it founder's release under the president's general amnesty in January 2012.

• Starting from June 2012, Crown School has been gradually restarting and activities such as offering Basic English Language Classes, Leadership and capacity building courses for the youth and students, and involving in the public movements for national purpose and labor rights activities.
