Thadingyut Festival or Lighting Festival

The festival is held on the full moon day of Thadingyut. As custom , it is held at the end of the Buddhist lent and is the second most popular festival in myanmar after Thingyan festival. The festival is the celebration to welcome the Buddha who was descending from the heaven after he preached the Abhidhamma to his mother who was reborn in the heaven.
The festival last for three days- before the full moon day, full moon day and after the full moon day. Buddha's mother died seven days after the Buddha was born and she was reborn in the heaven. In order to pay back the gratitude to his mother, Buddha preached the Abhidhamma to his mother in the heaven for three lenten months.
When he was descending to the mortal world, the ruler of the heaven, Thagyamin, ordered all the saints and evils to make th ree precious stairways which were made of gold, silver and ruby. The Buddha took the middle way with the ruby. The nat(deva) came along by the right golden stairways and the Brahmas from the left silver stairways.
The buddhists celebrate festival to welcome the Buddha and his disciples by enlightening and festooning the streets, houses and public buildings with colored electric bulbs or candles which represent the three stairways.
During the festival days, Buddhists usually go to the pagodas and monasteries to pay respect the monks and offer foods. And, most Buddhists fast on the full moon day.
Young people pay respect to the parents, teachers and elderly relatives and offer them some fruits and other gifts. Also while paying homage, the younger people ask for forgiveness from the sins they have caused upon their parents or elders throughout the year. Traditionally, the elders tell their youngsters that they forgive any of their wrong doings and continue to bless them with good luck and gift some pocket money. In return, the elders one wish good luck for them and give them some pocket money.
some young child play fire cracker and fire balloms during the festival days.
