Many children can complete work when someone guides them. ✏️
But what happens when no one shows the next step?
Is guidance helpful? Yes.
Children need support, encouragement and clear direction when learning feels difficult.
But they also need something just as important:
the chance to think, try, make mistakes and continue. 🌱
When learning is always guided, some children may get used to waiting for help. Before they even try, they may say:
“I don’t know how.”
Self-learning helps children build confidence from within.
It helps them look for clues.
It helps them stay calm when they are unsure.
It helps them try again after mistakes.
And slowly, it helps them say:
“Let me try first.” 💪
At Kumon, children study at their just-right level, where the work is matched to their current ability. With small, steady steps, they build independence, confidence and the habit of learning every day.
Because the goal is not just to complete today’s worksheet.
It is to help children become learners who can continue growing, even when learning is not easy. 🚀
Save this for the next time your child says, “I don’t know how.”
Sometimes, the best support is giving them space to think before stepping in. 🤍

To all mothers,
some of the greatest love is shown in the smallest moments—
in the waiting, the reminding, the encouraging, and the believing.
This Mother’s Day, we honour the quiet strength and steady love behind every child’s journey.
Happy Mother’s Day. 💙

“I don’t know.”
Many parents hear this… and quickly step in to help.
Because we care.
We want our child to feel supported.
But in that small moment, something important is happening.
Your child is learning:
👉 Do I try first… or do I wait for help?
“I don’t know” doesn’t always mean they can’t.
Sometimes it means:
“I’m not sure yet.”
“I’m afraid to make a mistake.”
So instead of answering immediately…
pause for a moment.
Gently guide them to:
• think
• try
• take one small step
Even a small attempt matters.
Because confidence doesn’t come from being told.
It grows when a child realises:
👉 “I tried… I can keep going.”
At Kumon, we support children step by step —
so they build confidence to learn on their own, at their own pace.
Small words. Big difference.

💭Have you ever sat beside your child during homework and wondered whether to step in?
Try this simple rule: 𝒐𝒃𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒆 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕, 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒑𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 10 𝒔𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒔. Those few seconds let your child 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒌, 𝒓𝒆‑𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒓𝒚
—the small moments where independence is built.
