Dear student, teacher, artist or anyone else who have an interest for drawing,

How do drawing and visual practices shape the way we think, learn and communicate today? What importance does the drawing subject have in education, and how can it be improved?

The Northern Drawing School invites students, teachers and researchers from all disciplines to take part in a short survey on drawing, visual thinking and creative methods in higher education.

This survey addresses both artistic and non-artistic fields. When we refer to drawing, we mean not only artistic drawing, but also diagramming, sketching, doodling, visual note-taking, modelling and other analogue visual practices used for expression, thinking, analysis, research and communication.

The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete, and your responses will be used as base for our development of the drawing subject, artistic as well as for interdisciplinary purposes, for teaching, research and exchange initiatives within the NDS network.

Your perspective matters, whether you draw every day, scribble a bit now and then or even hardly touched a pen in your entire life.

Many Thanks NDS ✏️

Drawing trees in Pristina

1. Sightless:
Observe a tree closely and draw it without looking at your paper. Focus entirely on the tree's details.

2. Partial Observation:
Observe the tree for 2-3 minutes, then draw from memory for 2-3 minutes without looking at the tree. Repeat this cycle.

3. Memory/Imagination:
After observing a tree for 5 minutes, draw it from memory, using your imagination to fill in any gaps.

Together with , we gathered each day before the talks at the REDO Conference in Pristina to draw a special tree using the methods described above. We invited conference attendees to apply these techniques to visually document the talks, speakers, presentations, and audience, creating a graphic record of the event for students who couldn't join the excursion in person. In collaboration with and , we will produce a small publication capturing these visual traces from Pristina.
