Salama from Madagascar!

The MarCOSIO consortium will be hosting the GMES and Africa Immersive Training Workshop : 19 June - 22 June 2024 in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

This workshop is an opportunity to discover more about the technologies and the strategies used by countries within the Western Indian Ocean regions to ensure safety at sea, to detect profitable fishing zones, to monitor ship traffic and coastal ecosystems.

This will also be an opportunity to learn, network, and collaborate with key stakeholders in these critical fields.

**Visit to VLIZ and the UNESCO IOC-Project Office for IODE**

Established in 2000 at IH.SM, MD-NODC emerged from the collaborative efforts of the Malagasy government and the support of IODE, the IOC-UNESCO, and the ODINAFRICA program.
Today, we had the privilege of visiting the VLIZ and the UNESCO/IOC Project Office for IODE housed at INNOVOCEAN CAMPUS in Oostende (Belgium) marking another step in our ongoing partnership.
During our discussions, several topics were addressed:
- Exploring the potential for Madagascar's integration into the Global Network for Sea Level Rise (GLOOS-Global Sea Level Observing System)
- Accreditation for MD-NODC. IODE comprises 59 NODCs (National Oceanographic Data Centers) from around the globe, where only 11 are accredited.
- Formulating an Ocean Data Management Plan and fostering data sharing initiatives
- Discussing funding and training opportunities, as well as regional projects pertinent to NODCs
- Participating in the development of a sea level monitoring facility as part of UNESCO's Ocean Decade Program
This visit reconnected MD-NODC with its original partners, emphasizing our commitment to ongoing collaboration and advancing oceanographic efforts together.
