Teaching Malagasy for 18 years has brought me many blessings. Twice in just six months, I was honored to join the weddings of my American students Jeremy Womack Swedlund and Matthew Hurst with those two wonderful Malagasy women. A joyful celebration where language became a bridge from the classroom to love and happiness. 💐 Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Hurst and Mr. & Mrs. Swedlund! May the love, the peace of the Lord, and all His blessings abundantly cover your union.

Visits from Former Students ✨

Eight years have passed since Ross Maxwell first sat in my classroom, discovering Malagasy for the very first time. 2 weeks ago, he returned — and what a joy it was to see him again! He still remembers the place and the teacher where his journey with the Malagasy language began. Encounters like this in Antsirabe remind me how deeply these moments stay with us.

The Swiss family Schaerers Underwägs also came back to visit. Their story is another testimony of perseverance and love for learning. Even after years away, they continue to cherish the Malagasy language and culture. Seeing them again brought back so many memories of shared laughter, challenges, and progress made together.

And the Nolte family? Two years ago, they began learning Malagasy via Zoom while still in South Africa. This past mid‑July, the four of them traveled from Tamatave to Antsirabe to strengthen certain grammar points. Even though it was only two weeks, they did not lose out — they truly gained a lot. Thank you for trusting me — the story continues!

I could not help but feel emotional while gathering these photos of students from the past 14 years, who have passed through this classroom one after another. From now on, my students will be welcomed in a freshly new classroom. The first to inaugurate it was Lucy, a Korean missionary. Lucy spent several months in Antsirabe to study Malagasy. I truly appreciate her effort and perseverance, because it was not easy for her — she speaks only a little English and no French. She is living proof that nothing can stop someone from learning Malagasy. So don’t hesitate if you find yourself in a similar situation! Yesterday she came to say goodbye and headed to Tana, where she will continue her ministries. Veloma mandrapihaona Lucy !

After 17 years in Madagascar, you became truly fluent in Malagasy through using it every day.

My family and I will never forget you. God used you to lead me into becoming a Malagasy language teacher, and for that I will always be grateful.

I’m sure Madagascar will always remain your second home—or perhaps even your first home in your hearts.

I’m pleased to announce that I will once again be available to teach Malagasy in Tanà on July 9, 10, and 11 (Thursday to Saturday).

truly love my job. Beyond the joy of teaching Malagasy and seeing my students grow in understanding and speaking, it brings many meaningful moments.

Last Friday, I had the privilege of reconnecting with four former American students at a wedding. The groom , Jeremy Swedlund, was my student last year. It was a joy to witness the beginning of this new journey with his beautiful wife, Kevie.

The ceremony was led by Pastor Jay and Carey Rostorfer, my students from nine years ago, and Matthew Hurst, a recent former student, served as one of the best men.

The newlyweds are on cloud nine, and we were truly blessed to share in their joy. May God bless their union.
