🔥 This is the TOAD-HEADED AGAMA – The Tiny Lizard With a Big Attitude! 😱

Native to the deserts of Central Asia, the Toad-Headed Agama (Phrynocephalus mystaceus) is a small, fierce-looking lizard with an unforgettable face.

When threatened, it opens its mouth wide to reveal bright red or orange flaps of skin, a built-in intimidation display that scares off predators!

✨ Fun Fact: Despite its tough look, it’s harmless and spends most of its time sunbathing or digging tiny burrows in the sand to stay cool.

FIGURING OUT THE EXPANSION TO MADAGASCAR 🇲🇬

From Fiji: MATASAWALEVU VILLAGERS CELEBRATE FIRST SEAWEED HARVEST AND PLAN EXPANSION

Villagers of Matasawalevu in Kadavu celebrated a major milestone with the successful harvest of their first batch of seaweed, marking a new chapter in sustainable livelihood development for the community. The harvest, supported by Fisheries officers from Kavala, highlights the positive results of collaboration and community effort.

The first harvest filled the village’s newly built drying racks, signaling a promising start to their seaweed farming venture. The villagers plan to conduct another harvest in two weeks, once the current batch has fully dried, and to continue the process on a regular cycle to maintain a steady supply and income source.

On October 16, 2025, the community also expanded its seaweed lines through transplanting activities aimed at increasing production and ensuring long-term sustainability. This initiative not only strengthens local livelihoods but also supports the sustainable management of Kadavu’s marine resources.

🚨 BREAKING: All oceanic devil rays are now Critically Endangered.

📢 The IUCN Red List has just reassessed the conservation status of all three oceanic devil rays; the spinetail (Mobula mobular), bentfin (M. thurstoni), and sicklefin (M. tarapacana) devil ray.

They are now officially classified as Critically Endangered, the last category before extinction in the wild.

🔎 Why the uplisting?
⚪️ Steep population declines have been recorded across the Indian, Pacific, and Atlantic Oceans.
⚪️ These declines are based on landing data, reduced sightings, and expert observations.
⚪️ Overfishing and bycatch continue to drive mortality, with most catches going unreported.
⚪️ International trade in their meat and gill plates remains high, unsustainable, and in many cases illegal.
⚪️ Their slow reproduction (like manta rays, they have long gestation and few offspring) makes recovery extremely difficult.

⚠️ What this means
🌊 Current national, regional, and international protections are not working.
🌊 All three species were listed as Endangered in 2018; in just a few years they have worsened to Critically Endangered.
🌊 This uplisting is a strong signal that stronger, science-based, and enforceable conservation measures are urgently needed.

📣 The time to act is NOW. In less than 3 months, global leaders will meet at CITES CoP20 to decide the future of manta and devil rays. We are calling for Appendix I protection, which would end international commercial trade.

✔️ Sign the petition (https://bit.ly/4o5Sulu)
✔️ Grab a campaign T-shirt, snap a photo, and share it on our campaign page (https://bit.ly/3KHeF3e)
✔️ Your photo will become part of a powerful mural at CITES - a message that delegates cannot ignore

⚠️ These species are the largest of the devil rays and are highly migratory. Without immediate, coordinated action, we risk losing them forever.

Always Good News from Madagascar
