My Father being the Root 06/09/2024

I used to watch my father lace his shoes, crisp white shirt perfectly tucked in, walking out the door to serve the same company for over three decades.

He was like a monument to loyalty, an antiquity of an era where hard work, discipline, and consistency were the only currencies worth anything.

But me? I’m a product of a different time.

I’ve been in over 79 jobs, not even my father had reached that many years, he’s alive & well though. Not once have I lasted longer than nine months, the shortest time I’ve spent in a job was a day and a half selling Appliances Insurance for the UK Senior Citizens. I move from one position to the next, never staying, never committing.

At first, it bothered me — a sense of guilt from not becoming the man my father raised.

But then, I realized something: loyalty today feels like a slow death.

You devote your time, energy, and soul to a corporate machine, only to be forgotten the moment you walk out.

Dogs should be loyal to their masters. People should be loyal to themselves.

My dad — charming, articulate, always well-composed — was the epitome of a man who mastered the art of sales. I, on the other hand, turned out to be more of a manipulator, a hustler.

My game was different. I was never afraid to charm my way out of things, get what I wanted no matter the consequences, especially with women. In a world where everyone & everything wants to control you, I decided to be the one pulling the strings.

I love my father deeply. Everything I know, everything I’ve built, comes from the foundation he laid.

He taught me the importance of knowledge, drilled it into my bones. While he reads a book every 2–3 days, I consume them like air — reading more than a book a day, sometimes. But unlike him, I write. I pour out over a 1000 words every day. He gave me the roots, and I became the fruit.

And I learned from him, not in words but through his sacrifices, that the only person you should be loyal to is the one in the mirror.

Blood, sweat, and tears — they’re part of the equation. But the world has changed.

The old game? It’s a sucker’s bet. I’d rather take risks, move faster, fall harder, and get back up again.

Loyalty isn’t what builds legacies anymore — creativity, adaptability, and knowing when to walk away are.
