The Science Diplomacy Programme continued at the Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS UM6P - Mohammed VI Polytechnic University) with a session led by Prof. Yasmine YH Hasnaoui, who explored the growing role of scientific evidence in shaping diplomacy and international decision-making.

Using Morocco’s engagement at the United Nations as a case study, the discussion examined how research, data, legal analysis, development indicators and evidence-based policymaking increasingly support diplomatic action on issues ranging from climate change and public health to sustainable development and international negotiations. Participants also reflected on the opportunities and limits of science diplomacy, the importance of critical thinking, and the role researchers can play in translating scientific knowledge into meaningful policy dialogue.

The session concluded with an interactive exercise, encouraging participants to assess evidence, negotiate competing narratives, and experience firsthand the challenges of balancing science, politics and diplomacy in international affairs.
