On April 2nd, the campus in Benguerir came alive during ๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ ๐ช๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ธ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฒ, bringing together researchers, industry experts, PhD candidates, and students around the theme " (s)โ.
The day opened with an inspiring speech by Prof. Redouane Bz Beniazza, setting the tone for meaningful exchange and collaboration.
Throughout the event, we explored how cross-disciplinary collaboration can drive impactful innovation within the phosphate ecosystem. From strategic insights on the value chain to discussions on transformation processes, interdisciplinary research, and emerging topics like AI, every session highlighted a strong connection between science and real-world applications.
We had the pleasure of hosting distinguished speakers, including :
Mr. Ayoub Chahlaoui, Prof. Radouan El Bamiki, Eng. tawfik BIGDAD, and Dr. Kaoutar Sefrioui Boujemaรข, PHD.
A highlight of the afternoon was the โ๐ช๐ผ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒโ roundtable, featuring Prof. Hasnaa Chennaoui Aoudjehane, Prof. Manal MHADA, Prof. Sarah Derbali, and Mrs Hind Hatim, who shared inspiring perspectives and experiences.
A special mention goes to our PhD students Choaib El Mouchtari, Anass El Meskine, Alain SINA, Achraf Laabid, and Khalil Moujibi, whose engagement truly reflected the energy and promise of the next generation.
The sessions were expertly moderated by Prof. Idir BENAISSA, Prof. Bouchaib Mouhsine, Dr. Asmae Bousfiha, and Prof. Anass AIT BENHAMOU, who guided engaging and insightful discussions throughout the day.
We also extend our sincere thanks to our student organizers Hamza Koujili, Zoubaida Klaoua, Amina Nachath , Jawhara Guerraoui, and Youssef Azeroual undergraduate students from the GUP+ program, who were actively involved in organizing the afternoon sessions. Through the AIChE UM6P student chapter, they proposed themes that matter deeply to them, including Women in Science and the early involvement of undergraduate students in research and innovation.

On January 13, 2026, our IST&I research team came together for a special and highly productive meeting.
We first took the opportunity to celebrate our Authors of the Year for their outstanding scientific contributions:

Their work truly reflects the quality, commitment, and impact of our teamโs research.
Beyond recognition, this meeting was also a key moment for collective reflection and forward planning. Together, we defined a pedagogical roadmap focused on strengthening our skills through weekly seminars, workshops, and other knowledge-sharing initiatives.

On November 19, Dr. Jamal AIT BRAHIM, PhD presented his research on the valorization of phosphate byproducts and the extraction of valuable elements during his stay as a visiting researcher at the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, China University of Mining & Technology.
๐ฌ The presentation showcased the continuous growth of research activities within the Institute of Science, Technology and Innovation - IST&I - UM6P across multiple scientific fields, highlighting the Instituteโs expanding efforts in developing innovative projects and strategic collaborations to address diverse scientific and technological challenges.

๐ฌโจ Advancing Photoredox Catalysis at IST&I-UM6P!
The conference โ๐๐ก๐จ๐ญ๐จ๐ซ๐๐๐จ๐ฑ ๐๐๐ญ๐๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฌ ๐๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ข๐๐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐(๐ฌ๐ฉยณ)โ๐ ๐๐จ๐ง๐ ๐๐ฅ๐ค๐ฒ๐ฅ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง โ ๐๐จ๐ง๐๐๐ซ๐๐ง๐๐ ๐๐๐๐โ, delivered by Prof. Jean-Marc Vincent (University of Bordeaux, CNRS, France) and organized by the Institute of Science, Technology and Innovation - IST&I - UM6P and the College of Chemical Sciences and Engineering (CCSE), brought together researchers, PhD candidates, and students for an inspiring scientific session exploring the latest advances in photoredox catalysis.
Prof. Vincent presented significant recent progress in dual photoredox/transition-metal catalysis, with particular emphasis on copper/benzophenone-based photocatalytic systems enabling the direct functionalization of C(spยณ)โH bonds โ a longstanding challenge in modern organic synthesis. He also highlighted innovative strategies using highly fluorinated photoredox catalysts combined with chloride ions as HAT agents, delivering improved efficiency, selectivity, and sustainability in synthetic transformations.
The lecture was followed by an engaging discussion where participants explored potential applications for complex molecule synthesis, avenues to enhance selectivity, and opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. The conversation also touched on broader impacts across medicinal chemistry, advanced materials, and green chemistry.
This event fostered meaningful scientific exchange on campus and opened promising pathways for future research initiatives within UM6P.
