Australia's leading baby classes and toddler classes for children 6 wks to 5 yrs and their carers. GymbaROO is about putting the natural back into developmental opportunities for young children. Organic, natural development of children is difficult in our society with its safety/litigation concerns and ultra busy lives with reduced opportunities to move and play. At Rydalmere GymbaROO we are about moving, playing, dancing, rocking, swinging, climbing, catching and having fun.

The more a child moves, the more sensory information occurs which encourages learning.

Engaging as many senses as possible in a wide variety of experiences is essential for early brain development.

Experience is the best teacher, and the senses are the pathway to all experiences.

Our sensory tools include the familiar senses (sight, sound, smell, touch and taste), and intuition (proprioception - our sense of spatial orientation and movement)

The sensory tools provide the raw information the brain needs to learn about and interact with the world.

Movement stimulates the senses to collect information for the brain to analyse.

Sensory integration supports children’s growth intellectual, emotionally, physically and socially. So providing children with a rich, multi sensory environment is crucial. And variety and balance matter.

The four steps of sensory learning include:
*Recognition (what is that?)
*Association (this is like that)
*Judgement (I (don’t) like that!)
*Response (what if I do this with that)

Any sense - or combination of senses - can become the platform for new learning. In fact, the more senses that are involved, the better!

Hungry for information, the brain sends out as many sensory scouts as necessary to gather information and report back. In doing this, the brain needs to learn how to integrate and process it all to form a complete picture. Until the brain can integrate all the pieces, a child won’t fully understand the picture. Sensory integration, therefore, greatly affects not only what a child perceives, but how they will interpret, understand and respond to sensory information - in other words, how they learn.

Singing and playing musical instruments helps train and develop motor skills as well as building sound, rhythm and pattern recognition.

Many songs cater to the children’s natural urge to act what they see and hear. They may love walking, running, jumping and moving in response to songs and rhymes.

Through listening and responding to different types of music, a child can be stimulated to move in different ways. A more reserved child may become more active, while a more active child may be soothed.

Rhythm and music provide a wonderful way to help the development of your child’s listening skills, speech and language, providing building blocks for the future development of reading and writing skills.

More importantly, rhythm is also vital for smooth, coordinated movement which is essential for sports, the understanding of mathematics, the concept of time and the development of musical ability.

Body rhythm is the internal sense of timing that effectively coordinates all body movement. Music is a great tool which can affect a child’s sense of body rhythm and help to regulate and coordinate not only how we move, but also how we think, communicate and behave.
