The ULTIMATE GUIDE for SAT students👋

Part 4 – Cross text connections

- In this part, you will face two texts for the same questions2️⃣
- Text 1, Text 2
- The objective is to find the connection / relationship between both texts 🤞

What you need to know:
1- Be clear on the argument of each text✅

2- Do not confuse the author's point of view with the authors considerations❗️
• An author may present ideas that they do not agree with to complete their argument, those are considerations, you must distinguish them from the writer's point of view
- Example:
• Even though cars release fumes that are said to cause air pollution, we have come to a time where cars are essential for us to carry out our daily tasks.

3- Be careful that the relationship between the texts is not always a typical argumentative relationship of pros and cons, rather the nature of connection can be in other ways like one text talking about a topic generally, while the other mentions specifics🧠
- Example:
• 9/11 is a horrible historical event that has affected world economy terribly. Some people say it's a terrorist act, while others believe that it was planned by some powerful people in order to secure financial benefits.
When talking about the sad memory of 9/11, people's views are divided. The majority of people believe the logical explanation that some terrorists have done it, Osama Bin Laden did it for his hate of America. Others believe otherwise, they believe that some undercover rich people were greedy to get richer and richer, maybe congress men or business men have done it.

Post 3 –
Structure and purpose questions

- 12% of the questions
- This part includes three types of questions3️⃣
a. What is the main purpose of the text?
• Why was the text written?
b. What is the overall structure of the text?
• How is the text organized? What is the order of ideas?
c. What is the function of the underlined sentence?
• What does the underlined sentence add to the text? Why was it included? What's the message conveyed through it?

How do we prepare for such questions❓
- Read to understand the message of the text, not to look for information❗️
- Make sure both parts of the answer-choice describe the text correctly!
- FOCUS ON CONTEXT‼️
Note: Context is the most important word to focus on when preparing for the SAT!

SAT SERIES 📢
The ultimate guide for SAT students❗️

2nd post – Words in context

- 34% of the reading and writing part consists of words in context questions
- These questions come in two variations:
A. Which choice completes the text with the most logical and precise word or phrase?

B. As used in the text, what does the word “compromise” most nearly mean?

So, how do we prepare for such questions❓

1- Reading for context
- Reading papers, books, magazines📚
- Summarizing what we read and trying to guess the meaning of new words from the context✅
- Checking the guessed meaning with the dictionary meaning
- With time, your guesses will be more accurate💯

Does this mean, we don't need to know the definitions of words anymore❓

NO❗️NO❗️NO❗️

Here is a resource that contains around 3500 definitions of words you might encounter on the exam:
- Don't get scared all of a sudden😟
- 2-3 words a day would be more than enough!

https://acrobat.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:sc:AP:f1853f15-b0db-4089-8df1-316488763a32

When practicing questions:

1- Create synonyms when asked to fill in a blank with the most suitable word or phrase
- Having an idea before looking at the choices will help you be more accurate and decisive☑️

2- Focus on the affixes
- The attitude of an unknown word can help determine its meaning
- Whether it’s a positive or a negative word📈

3- Process of elimination
- In the SAT, only one answer can be true, so if some of the options are known to you and they can’t be true or only partially true, eliminate them and focus on what remains💯

• And you are not weak, or slow, you just didn't practice right, and didn't practice enough✅
