Congratulations to WICE Project Director Professor Inta Mieriņa on receiving the Certificate of Recognition of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia!

Professor Inta Mieriņa, a Tenured Professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Latvia (UL), received the Certificate of Recognition of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia at a ceremonial event held on 18 June 2026.

WICE Project Lead Prof. Inta Mieriņa is attending the 2026 Annual Conference of the European Consortium for Sociological Research (ECSR) at Trinity College Dublin.

Bringing together leading sociologists from across Europe and beyond, the conference provides an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas, build new collaborations, and strengthen international research networks around some of today’s most pressing social challenges. We are delighted to see WICE represented in this vibrant academic community and look forward to new connections and future partnerships emerging from the event.

How do controversial topics spread across digital platforms and how can researchers trace them?

Join WICE project researcher Dr. Maria Eva Lompe for a seminar on Controversy Mapping as a methodological approach to studying online controversies, disinformation, and the circulation of knowledge in the platformisation era.

Drawing on digital methods, social media analysis, and empirical cases from the Polish online landscape, the seminar will explore how linking behaviour, platform structures, and information ecosystems shape public debates and disinformation dynamics.

🎓 WICE Project Lead Participates in International Symposium in Cambridge

Professor Inta Mieriņa (University of Latvia), Head of the WICE project, took part in the international symposium “1945 in the Baltic and its Legacies”, hosted by the Centre for Geopolitics at the University of Cambridge.

As part of the symposium, Professor Mieriņa participated in the roundtable discussion “Legacies of 1945 in the Baltic: history of aggression, or aggression of history?”, focusing on the enduring impact of 1945 on the Baltic region and its relevance to contemporary debates on politics, security, and historical memory.

🎉 We are proud to share that Professor Inta Mieriņa, Principal Investigator of the WICE project, has been appointed as an ERC Ambassador!

The “Ambassadors for the ERC” network, launched by the European Research Council (ERC) and the Association of ERC Grantees (AERG), brings together ERC grantees from across Europe to advocate for frontier research and highlight the value of fundamental science.

As an ERC Ambassador, Professor Mieriņa will help promote excellence-driven research funding, share insights about ERC opportunities, and advocate for fundamental research at both national and European levels.
