The H.A.R.M.O.N.Y. project unites HEIs, VET providers, research institutions, and SMEs to tackle workplace mental health challenges.

Our goal is to equip SME employers and employees with the tools and knowledge to prevent stress, anxiety, and depression at work. Co-funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA). Mental health priorities are evolving — and the direction of change differs across countries.

From preventive approaches and digital counselling expansion, to growing awareness of burnout, loneliness, and neurodiversity, a clear pattern is emerging: mental health is becoming more proactive, more digital, and more integrated into organisational culture.

Across countries, we observe:
A shift from reactive to preventive approaches
Growth of hybrid and digital learning models
Increasing attention to stress, burnout, and loneliness
Stronger links between sustainability and wellbeing
Rising interest in digital tools, simulations, and anonymous support formats

While contexts differ, the overall trajectory points towards earlier intervention, cultural openness, and balanced digitalisation.

📊 The infographic highlights key country-specific developments identified within the H.A.R.M.O.N.Y. project.

💬 Which of these trends do you see most strongly in your country or sector?

Supporting mental health in SMEs requires more than awareness — it requires structured, practical solutions.

Our recommendations focus on:

Tailored, time-efficient training for managers and staff

National toolkits and clear guidance pathways

Empathetic and supportive leadership development

Balanced digitalisation that protects privacy and preserves human connection

Anti-stigma initiatives embedded in organisational culture

Sustainable change happens when prevention, early intervention, leadership competence, and organisational culture work together.

💬 Which of these actions do you think should be prioritised in SMEs right now?

On the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, the Harmony Project ERASMUS highlights an essential dimension of workplace safety: mental health.

A safe working environment goes beyond physical protection — it also means addressing stress, psychosocial risks, and overall well-being. Promoting mental health at work supports not only individuals, but also stronger, more resilient organisations.

Healthy minds are key to safe workplaces.

"Mental health education is no longer optional. It's a foundation for sustainable learning, leadership, and work."
