🌟 Insights from the EQUALS-EU Symposium at the VIth International Economic Forum (IEF) in Riga 🌟

The EQUALS-EU Symposium, a highlight of the VIth International Economic Forum in Riga and part of the European Union Horizon 2020 R&I Programme, has set a new benchmark for discussions on gender-inclusive innovation ecosystems. Under the expert moderation of Dr. Jo Cramer and Renars Raubiskis, the symposium was a gathering of minds dedicated to fostering gender equality in the tech world.

🔍 Standout Session: "Gender Equality in Turkish ICT Sector: A Feminist Technoscience Perspective" by Zelal Özdemir.

Essential Takeaways:

Techriarchal Bargaining: This innovative concept highlights how women in the Turkish ICT sector navigate through challenges and opportunities, battling stereotypes and discriminatory practices.

Satisfaction Amidst Obstacles: Despite facing significant gendered barriers, women exhibit a high level of job satisfaction, showcasing a complex interplay of resilience and adaptation.

Visibility vs. Vulnerability: The study brings to light the "spiral of visibility-vulnerability," where women's underrepresentation leads to increased visibility but also greater vulnerability to bias.

Urgent Need for Change: The findings emphasize the critical need for interventions to close the gender gap and ensure workplace equality in the ICT sector.

Contributions to Feminist Technoscience: Offering both empirical data and theoretical advancements, this research enriches the field of feminist technoscience, pushing its boundaries further.

Presented at the VIth IEF in Riga, 2023, Zelal Özdemir and Asuman Özgür Keysan's work is a testament to the importance of gender-inclusive policies and practices in the tech industry.

🔥 Let’s carry these insights forward and strive for a tech ecosystem where gender equality is not just an aspiration but a reality. Engage with us in this crucial dialogue and share your thoughts and actions towards achieving gender inclusivity in innovation.

The VIth Economic forum held by the LZA Ekonomikas Institūts of the Latvian Academy of Sciences witnessed a distinctive lineup of attendees and speakers from all over the world. The evening was brightened by panel discussions which made us realise the big questions in front of Europe:

What does Europe and, in particular, the Baltic countries lack in order to launch innovative solutions on the market?
What competencies are needed to search for new solutions in the external environment and to develop an innovative economy at the micro and macro levels?
How to organise the transfer of technologies and scientific developments in an effective way?
How to access the world's best technologies and competencies, and use them to enter new markets in order to diversify?
How best to protect intellectual property and control R&D activities?
How to use the open innovation in practice, allowing companies to increase the chances of success in developing new products by 3 times?
