An increasing number of children are glued to the screen, playing games and engaging with friends and the outside world on screen.

They spend little time socialising off screen. This leads to an increased sense of loneliness, anxiety, fear, stress, depression, insomnia and interrupted sleep patterns, not to mention being bad for physical health.

Put away your electronics and step outside into green and blue space, to reconnect with for greater clarity. Nature is a powerful tool to improve your mood and reduce negativity.
Spend some time with friends playing and relaxing outside.

Pandemic has had a life changing impact on me and many others. It is worrying to see an increased number of children and youth now suffering from mental health due to the pandemic.

An increase in depression, anxiety, stress, fear, sense of loneliness and let's not forget many have developed friendships online playing games. This in turn may have led to many becoming addicted to games, they have either eaten with little exercise or forgot to eat, dropping weight to dangerous levels.

Sometimes we ignore what is before our eyes than face the truth. We can help taking one step at a time as parents but sometimes we need help.

In offering a hand to your children and youth, there is a need to give them that voice and agency to make the decision for themselves to take that step. If it is imposed or you talk in front of them of what you fear for them as if they do not exist is failing to give them a voice. At all times, it is necessary for us to seek to understand their emotions and their thoughts.

As a nature life coach, I see the importance of reconnecting with nature to help improve physical and mental well-being. Children and youth as much as us, adults too want to discover who they are within and how their relationship with the world.

Now there is a greater recognition of the healing power of nature and how it can be a tool to improve physical and mental wellbeing. Research has found that increased exposure to nature, green space, surrounded by pot plants as well as riviers, lakes, or gardening helps improve wellbeing, mentally and physically.

Spending as little as 15 minutes daily in green space helps reduce stress levels, anxiety, depression, fear and other health conditions. Being in nature improves our mood, helps us find clarity and focus in our life as well as building self-worth, value and confidence with better coping life skills.

We can all reconnect with our natural environment to get clarity and to improve our mood. It is a time for us to spend some time in green space, without electronics and to open all our senses and just take it all in without pressure, giving you time to reflect.

email if you would like to book a session with me. You can also join My group where I will be running 5 live sessions on how to cope and manage fear starting on 2nd September and will only be available to access for a month.

Today, many students are celebrating their exam results. Others, however, for whatever reason, have not made their grades. If that is you, remember: it is only a stage in life. Do not see it as the end of anything. It may even only be a detour. For me life is life is like s cactus: interesting but prickly.

Something for all to ponder over…
We are told to ‘be yourself’. What does this mean to you? Who you are? Who we are, is it a fixed or ever changing?
Comment below. Who are you?

Okay, it’s great news that covid restrictions are being lifted, at least in some places. We will feel happy to see the back of social isolation. I look forward to having my daughter back home and holding her in my arms, knowing she has returned safely.

For many, I know, it is difficult to bring yourself out of this state of social and mental isolation. This is normal but we do need to take that step forward to restore our mental and physical wellbeing.
Reach out to a friends and family for help. You can suggest going for a walk in the park or forest; any natural environment will help you clarify your mind.

I also know many of us are living away from friends and family and feel alone and fearful. We can get through this.

Take the decision to move forward and overcome your fear. Go for a walk.

All comments welcome. But you can also contact me directly with your comments and suggestions and I will reply.

Mental wellbeing with balanced self-esteem and confidence...

We interchangeably use self-esteem and self-confidence to mean the same thing. I guess there is a fine line to be drawn between the two.

Self-esteem is how we see ourselves internally: our attitudes, how we value ourselves, how we feel about who we are and our abilities.

We do not have full autonomy over our levels of self-esteem. Our internal thoughts are not entirely separate from our relationship with others. Our experiences at school, with our peers and teachers, our parents and siblings and society, have its impact on our attitudes and self-belief and value in our capabilities.

Confidence refers to external factors. It is about trusting our ability to successfully interact and engage with others in society.

A person who is self-confident is ready to face new challenges, open to new opportunities, and to face difficulties arising, with full responsibility for their own actions and thoughts.

High levels of self-esteem and self-confidence are not always a good thing. We need to learn to find a middle ground as both high and low levels can have negative impacts on our wellbeing. Low levels of self-esteem and confidence can hold us back from our dreams. Overly high self-esteem and confidence can lead to us making decisions we know little about with disastrous consequences, which can knock us back down.

But we can strike a balance. We can work towards gaining and managing our levels of self-esteem by embracing our weaknesses and strengths to better appreciate our abilities for harmonious actions and decisions.

We can also help others. In the workplace, rather than only be negative towards co-workers, we can give constructive feedback with positive affirmation of what they have produced so they are encouraged to improve.

Children can develop a balanced self-esteem and confidence if we show them their strengths and equip them with skills to address and accept that they have weaknesses and there is nothing wrong with this.

We learn to become confident and to have self-worth in what we do, knowing that we are good at some things and at other tasks we need to try to improve.
