Join the UF/IFAS Extension Sumter County Master Gardener Volunteers for the Spring Plant and Garden Festival coming up next week on Saturday, March 21 from 8 am to 4 pm, and Sunday, March 22 from 9 am to 3 pm. Visit all of the vendors for just what you need for your garden or landscape, learn something new from speakers on both days, get your free ticket just in it is called for a door prize! Ask the Master Gardener will be there to answer your questions! Bring your kids or grandkids for hands-on fun just for them! There will be a couple of food trucks so you can enjoy lunch! The 5Ps of Cold Weather Preparedness from the Florida Department of Emergency Management talks about protecting people, pipes, plants and pets. Also make smart decisions on practicing fire safety! When protecting plants, cover with a heavier weight material not row covers as they will provide no protection from cold for your plants. Make sure you weight down your material so it does not blow off. Also know that because of this cold even covered plants can experience damage. Do not prune dead off until mid-march.
Make sure that you bring in pets or provide warm coverings. You can contact UF/IFAS Extension in your county with questions!
