Congratulations to Gonzalo on completing the Lithuanian A1.1 course! 🎉

This short clip from his speaking exam shows how much progress can be made in a relatively short time. With regular practice, the right support and a little confidence, even a new language can quickly start to feel more familiar.

After the Lithuanian Student Song Celebration filled Vilnius with songs, dances and performances, we wanted to introduce this tradition to those who may be hearing about it for the first time.

Here is a short guide to one of Lithuania’s most important cultural celebrations — this year known by the title “Laikų ratu kartu”, or roughly “moving through time together”.

And if you would like to move closer to Lithuanian culture too, learning the language is a great place to start. Register now!

Our intern Zuzanna walked around Vilnius and noticed that many street names have clear meanings in Lithuanian.

Next time you walk in the city, look at the street signs — they can help you learn new words.

And if you want to learn Lithuanian more actively, join 1_2_kalbu.

Thank you, Zuzanna, for your time and ideas during your internship with us. We wish you the best of luck as you continue learning Lithuanian!

Our new intern Zuzanna noticed how naturally languages mix in Vilnius, especially among younger people:

"It’s not only about using a few English loanwords anymore. Many young people naturally code-switch between Lithuanian and English in the same conversation depending on the topic. Sometimes certain words or expressions simply come to mind faster in English, especially when talking about work, the internet, or technology. Other times people switch languages when discussing things strongly connected to English-speaking culture - movies, memes, gaming, music, or social media.

It’s also worth mentioning that a lot of international media is available mainly in English and often isn’t fully translated into Lithuanian. Films, videos, podcasts, and online content are frequently watched in their original language, sometimes only with subtitles."

Have you noticed this before?
