MAJOR BOOST FOR GRAND GEDEH UNIVERSITY: Speaker Koon Delivers on Commitments to GGU 🇱🇷⚡

Grand Gedeh University (GGU) is set to receive significant developmental support from the Speaker of the 55th National Legislature, Rt. Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon, as he visits the campus this week during his official tour of the Southeastern region.

According to an official release from the Office of the Speaker, the intervention includes:

🔌 Power Infrastructure: A brand-new transformer to significantly improve campus electricity and learning facilities.

🎓 Tuition Support: Full fee payments for 750 students currently enrolled in the 2025/2026 academic session.

📚 New Scholarships: An expansion of the Speaker’s scholarship scheme to benefit an additional 50 students.

These critical interventions fulfill commitments made during Speaker Koon's initial tour of the Southeast in December 2025.

THE WORK OF MY HANDS:

Transforming Narrative into Institutional Destiny

When I accepted the mandate to serve as the strategic image-maker for this institution, the directives were clear: deploy professional expertise, leverage strategic networks, and lead an aggressive, multi-layered communication initiative to reinvent our public identity, elevate stakeholder engagement, and advance the transition of the former Grand Gedeh Community College into a full-fledged, degree-granting university.

Today, that vision stands fully realized. Everywhere now, whether in the water or air, earth or mars, it is GGU, GGU, GGU, indeed a PROPER NOUN !!!!

What was once a quiet citadel of learning in leeward Southeast Liberia has metamorphosed into Grand Gedeh University (GGU), a premier institution shifting the paradigm of higher education and human capital development in this country.

My forthcoming book, STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION AND THE EVOLUTION OF GRAND GEDEH UNIVERSITY: Narrative As An Engine of Institutional Transformation, captures this journey. More than an institutional history, this volume documents how a region took charge of its educational destiny to bridge historical resource disparities and advance decentralized national development.

Rather than relying on secondary commentary, this volume draws heavily from primary archival materials, administrative records, and direct institutional accounts. It tracks not just the administrative transition from a community college to a full-fledged university, but the broader socio-educational history of Grand Gedeh County and to some extent, Southeast Liberia.

This work also offers actionable insights for public administrators, university leaders, and strategic communicators across emerging economies.

The book project has reached an 80% completion milestone, setting the stage for manuscript finalization by early November 2026. The official public unveiling will take place on February 14, 2027, a date that aligns with the second presidential anniversary of Eric ZM Gbotoe, PhD, and the hosting of an International Colloquium on advancing Regional Development in Southeast Liberia

I am not a politician. My primary focus has been ensuring historical fidelity, a strong commitment to scholarship, strategic communication, and building institutional legacies that endure for posterity. Let the politicians sort themselves out and leave me out of their enterprise.

GGU Finalizes Plan to Set up Center for Entrepreneurship Studies

As one of the several initiatives mapped out to reposition the Grand Gedeh University as a topnotch citadel of learning aimed at driving innovation, research and national development, plans have been finalized to set up a Center for Entrepreneurship Studies to bridge academia and industry.

This transformative initiative is designed to drive applied education and cultivate a vibrant entrepreneurial mindset across our campus. By bridging academic discovery with real-world business creation, the Center will empower students with essential skills, inspire innovation, create job opportunities, and build sustainable wealth for our graduates and community.

Driven by the strategic vision of the President, Eric Z. M. Gbotoe, PhD, the Center will serve as a direct response to the growing demand for practical, market-aligned higher education. By transitioning from traditional theoretical instruction to hands-on skill acquisition, the Center will equip students across all academic disciplines with the tools necessary to launch sustainable business enterprises, generate employment, and contribute meaningfully to Liberia’s economic development.

Core Objectives of the Center for Entrepreneurship Studies:

1. Applied Learning Integration: Coupling classroom instruction with practical incubator programs, business modeling, and hands-on apprenticeship.

WORLD-CLASS Scholar Returns to GGU

As part of our commitment to academic excellence and world-class instruction, Grand Gedeh University (GGU) is thrilled to welcome Dr. Randy Nelson back to campus from the United States!

Dr. Nelson, a seasoned educator with 45 years of expertise in educational psychology, pedagogy, and communication from the University of Sioux Falls, has arrived to lead Cohort III of our faculty development series.

Dr. Nelson’s relationship with GGU began under the vision of Eric Z. M. Gbotoe, PhD , President of GGU to systematically upgrade our academic staff. Following successful programs in 2025 and earlier this year, this third exercise fulfills our ongoing Memorandum of Understanding to continuously elevate teaching standards across campus.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts in English and German at the University of Sioux Falls. He later earned a Master of Arts in Selected Studies in English at Augustana University and then a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership at the University of St. Thomas, Minneapolis. He has also completed graduate coursework in Germany and Austria.

During his 28 years of teaching high school English and German, Dr. Nelson taught in South Dakota and Minnesota. As well, he spent a year teaching in the public school system in Berlin, Germany.

During his 17 years at the University of Sioux Falls, Dr. Nelson taught undergraduate and graduate courses pertaining to educational psychology and pedagogy. He also taught foundational courses in writing and oral communication, as well as a doctoral course titled International and Intercultural Perspectives.

Over the years Dr. Nelson developed a strong interest in international education. Besides teaching, he served as USF's Director of International Education. In that role he assisted F-1 nonimmigrant students, served as the Principal Designated School Official for SEVIS and directed the Bridges English Language program. He also oversaw USF's study abroad program

Through strategic partnerships with scholars and top-tier institutions across the US, Europe, Asia, and Africa, GGU is actively expanding opportunities for faculty exchange, research, and innovation.
