Meet Randall B. Naigow, whose life in Dweh Town revolved around hunting bush animals. The practice, passed down through generations, was a means of survival: “We hunted because we had no other choice,” Randall recalls.

In 2025, Randall was among those who received good agricultural practices (GAP) training in cocoa agroforestry as part of the Community-Based Forestry and Protected Area Management (CBFM) Project. “The training opened my eyes,” he says. “I saw a future beyond hunting, one rooted in sustainability and growth.”

Since the training in 2025, Randall has proudly prepared one hectare to grow cocoa. He continues to build his expertise through the Joint Farmer Field School in Dweh Town. Randall’s journey from hunting to farming contributes to forest conservation and inspires others in his community. “We’re growing a future for our children, protecting our environment, and proving that change is possible.”

Under the CBFM project, jointly implemented by UNDP and FAO, the contribution of Sweden is helping to boost biodiversity conservation and improving livelihoods of forest-dependent communities in Liberia.
