PRESS Statement For Immediate Release

LINSU CLARIFIES MISINFORMATION ON THE HEALTH STATUS OF CDE. VARNEY ALIEU JARSEY

Monrovia, Liberia โ€“ The Liberia National Studentsโ€™ Union (LINSU) finds it compelling to clarify the misinformation regarding the health of Cde. Varney Alieu Jarsey, current President of the All-Africa Studentsโ€™ Union (AASU) and former President of LINSU.

Earlier yesterday, one of the sources from India, where Comrade Jarsey is currently undergoing advanced medical treatment, erroneously released information suggesting his demise. This was misleading and inaccurate. LINSU has since engaged both the attending family members and the team of physicians and surgeons in India, who have once again confirmed that Comrade Jarsey remains alive, though in critical condition.

In close consultation with the continental student movement, LINSU urges the public, comrades, and well-wishers across Africa and the world to remain hopeful and prayerful for the full recovery of President Jarsey.

We affirm our unbending commitment to provide timely, factual, and verified updates on his health status as we continue to remain in close touch with his family and medical team in India.

At this critical juncture, we call on all students (nationally and internationally) and the general public to dismiss any unverified report and stand in solidarity with our comrade, whose resilience has always been an emblem of the African student struggle.

We are thrilled to announce that Cde. Siahnneh D Smith, who was the Vice President for Administration has ascended as the Acting President of the Grand Bassa Students' Union. This decision was made after an intensive meeting was held at the Youth and Sports center, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, in order to resolve the crisis in the Union. After a long discussion, we were able to settle our differences, and came to a conclusion that would promote peace and unity in the union...

In that meeting, Cde. Christopher R Martin Jr, who is the Vice President for Operation agreed to let go of ascending to the presidency, despite some members of the union wanting him to take the lead due to his level of hard work, dedication and commitment towards the affairs of the Union. He said, "We won't archive our goals and make impact as members of the union if we continue being in crisis. Let my colleague take the lead, but she should try to work on her weaknesses towards the day to day affair union,"

However, Siahnneh D Smith who is now serving in the position of the President promised to work on her lapses and work in compliance with her colleagues to enhance a great team work and inclusivity. She added by stating her readiness to work with everyone in pushing forward the union's quest of archiving a common goal. Therefore, We look forward to seeing a positive change and better representation under her stewardship as the acting President...

In this light, the leadership has wholeheartedly endorsed the ascendency of Cde. Siahnneh Smith as the acting President of the Union. We are confident that she will now give her time and energy towards the progress of the leadership of GBASU, boldly speak to issues affecting the students and spearhead the student's affairs as the Chief Spoke person of the Grand Bassa Students Union. We have offered our full support as she embarks on this new role. We will work with her effectively in making sure the students' problem becomes our problem...

As we celebrate this new chapter in GBASU's leadership, we want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Cde. Siahnneh D Smith on her ascendency as President of the Grand Bassa Student' Union. We are confident that she will lead with passion, dedication, and a genuine commitment to addressing the issues confronting the student populace...

The union remains steadfast in promoting peace and unity among its members.. We are one body, and we have chosen the students affairs over position.. We are excited to come to a conclusion on the issue that was affecting our operations as a union, and also keeping the students in suspense..

Congratulations, madam President ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฟ ๐ŸŽ‰!! And Long Live the Grand Bassa Students' Union...........
