FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TUSU Reaffirms Commitment to Student Welfare and Calls for Stronger Institutional Collaboration at TUDA Meeting

Monrovia, Liberia – April 27, 2026 — The President of the Tarjuowon University Student Union - TUSU (TUSU), Exodus Janjay Roberts, has reaffirmed the union’s commitment to advancing educational opportunities and student welfare across Tarjuowon, during a high-level meeting of the Tarjuowon Development Association (TUDA).

Addressing TUDA Chairman Hon. Sampson Ward Toby, sectional heads, elders, officials of the Tarjuowon Youth Organization (TYO) Monrovia Base, and a gathering of students and stakeholders, Roberts emphasized unity, collaboration, and strategic action as key drivers for sustainable development in Tarjuowon.

“This marks our second engagement at a TUDA meeting, and it reflects our continued commitment to ensuring that the voices and needs of Tarjuowon students are not only heard but prioritized,” Roberts stated.

He highlighted education as the union’s foremost priority, noting that many students face severe financial constraints that threaten their academic progress. TUSU, he said, will intensify advocacy for scholarships, financial aid, and structured support systems to ensure no student is left behind.

As part of its forward-looking agenda, TUSU announced plans to institutionalize an annual fundraising initiative aimed at supporting students in Monrovia and at Sinoe Community College. The initiative is expected to provide direct financial relief to students struggling with tuition and related costs.

Roberts also called for a unified and constructive engagement with Golden Veroleum Liberia (GVL), stressing that benefits derived from Tarjuowon land must translate into tangible improvements in the lives of its people—particularly in education. He proposed that educational support funds be channelled through TUSU to ensure transparency, accountability, and direct impact on deserving students.

Key Recommendations Presented by TUSU Include:

- The establishment of a joint committee comprising TUDA, TNC, TAPA, TYO, district authorities, and TUSU leadership to ensure inclusive decision-making and direct student representation.

- Formal recognition of TUSU within the executive structures of all Tarjuowon organizations at both the home and Monrovia bases.

- Coordinated engagement with the Sinoe Legislative Caucus and GVL to secure Tarjuowon’s fair share of the proposed USD $100,000 support package, with a clear focus on education.

- The creation of vacation job opportunities at GVL for TUSU members to support financial independence and professional development.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with elders and stakeholders providing guidance, updates, and a unified path forward for the development of Tarjuowon.

TUSU reaffirmed its belief that the future of Tarjuowon depends on unity, transparency, and deliberate investment in its youth.
