Every parent wants to see their child succeed tomorrow.
A good career. A meaningful life. A respected name. A future they can be proud of.
But here is the question: What are we doing for that future TODAY?
Sometimes, we see parents postpone their children’s education because there is always something else to handle.
“Next semester, we will do it.”
“Let him just manage this year.”
“School time can’t pass oo.”
“She can continue when things get better. We na wan be managing small small.”
And before you know it, several years have passed.
A child who needed encouragement was left without it.
A child who needed a good learning environment was given less than they deserved.
A child whose potential needed to be nurtured was simply told to “figure it out.”
The truth is, children don’t get to pause their growing years while we wait for the perfect time.
Every school year matters.
Every lesson matters.
Every book matters.
Every conversation matters.
Every sacrifice matters.
Let’s look at the story of Oprah Winfrey, an American media personality, television host, producer, author, and philanthropist who became one of the world’s most recognized figures through her work in television and media.
But long before the fame, there was a young girl whose future was still being shaped.
Her childhood was not easy, but when she lived with her father, Vernon Winfrey, education, discipline, reading, and personal development were taken seriously. Her father and stepmother created an environment that pushed her to recognize and develop her potential. She excelled in school, became involved in public speaking, and eventually earned a college scholarship.
That does not mean every child will become Oprah.
It means something much simpler:
A child’s future can be deeply influenced by what the adults around them choose to do with their present.
Mama, Papa, investing in your child is not only about paying school fees.
It is showing up.
It is asking, “How was school today?”
It is providing the books you can afford.
It is encouraging them when they struggle.
It is correcting them when necessary.
It is partnering with their teachers.
It is creating an environment where learning is valued.
Because one day, that little child will become an adult.
And the question will not only be, “What did my child become?”
It will also be:
“What did I do when I had the opportunity to help them become it?”
