SATAN THE DEVIL — MISUNDERSTOOD, MISINFORMED, AND MISINTERPRETED TEACHINGS IN MANY CHURCHES

Many teachings about Satan the Devil are misunderstood, misinformed, and misinterpreted because Scriptures are taken out of their original context and mixed with church tradition and philosophy, rather than being taught strictly according to what is written.

FALSE TEACHING IDENTIFIED

The teaching that Satan is Lucifer, that he was a singing being, had a great musical voice, or that he is the morning star, is not biblical.

These ideas come from philosophy, speculation, and tradition, not from Scripture.

1. The Cherub in Eden Is NOT the Serpent of Genesis 3

A major error in church teaching is confusing the cherub in Eden with the serpent.

Genesis 3 identifies the serpent, not a cherub.

In Scripture, the serpent of Genesis 3 is described as a created creature.

Genesis 3:1 — “Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made.”

This shows that God created the serpent as one of the creatures of the field.

The text does not identify the serpent as a CHERUB.

After the fall, Scripture then identifies who the cherub is:

Genesis 3:24 — “So He drove out the man; and He placed at the east of the garden of Eden cherubim, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.”

This passage shows that the cherubim were placed by God to guard the tree of life, which is distinct from the serpent mentioned earlier.

Biblical summary
The serpent was a created creature made by God

The serpent is not called a cherub

The cherubim are separately identified
and were placed to guard the tree of life

Scripture distinguishes the serpent and the cherub; it does not merge them.

No Scripture states that the serpent was a cherub.

No Scripture states that Satan was a cherub in Eden

The Bible never says that the cherub in Eden became the serpent.

That connection is assumed, not written
