Delivering the keynote address for Liberia’s 179th Flag Day, Dr. Zobong Boima Norman, President of Western Region University , called on the nation’s youth and leaders to move beyond patriotism in speech and actively embody the values represented by the Lone Star flag.

Speaking at the C. H. Dewey Auditorium under the theme "From Heritage to Hope: The Flag that Unites Us," Dr. Norman urged young people—whom he described as the future of the nation, to prioritize their education, cultivate integrity, and embrace servant leadership. He emphasized that national progress requires active participation and ethical responsibility from the next generation.

"Loving the flag is not enough. We must live the values of the flag," Dr. Norman asserted, reminding the audience that true patriotism goes beyond ceremonial display.

Addressing government officials and policymakers in attendance, the university president challenged leaders to design and implement policies that tangibly improve the daily livelihoods of all Liberians. He warned against division and political rancor, urging citizens across all political and social divides to protect the nation's fragile peace.
"Let us not destroy what we should be building together," he added.

The ceremony brought together government ministers, local authorities, traditional leaders, educators, and students from across Bomi County to celebrate the national emblem and reflect on Liberia's path forward.

Western Region University (WRU) is stepping into commercial agriculture with the launch of its first major harvest: a 27-acre cassava production site. This move signals a broader institutional strategy to diversify revenue and build out commercial crop portfolios.

Our agricultural enterprise extends into high-value tree crops like cocoa and oil palm—supported by Conservation International as well as short-cycle cash crops, including peanuts, beans, and mixed vegetables underwritten by the Ministry of Agriculture.

We say thanks to Senator Alex Tyler and Superintendent Miatta Dorley for the support and other local authorities who anticipate that the harvest will provide both economic momentum for the institution and a steady supply of staples to local markets.
