On 24 July 2026, the Open University of Sri Lanka proudly marked another significant milestone with the official opening of the newly established, fully equipped Chemistry Laboratory at the Batticaloa Regional Centre.

The opening ceremony was graced by the Vice-Chancellor, Senior Professor P. M. C. Thilakarathne, together with the Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, the Head of the Department of Chemistry, the Senior Assistant Director, and the academic and non-academic staff of the Batticaloa Regional Centre.

This state-of-the-art laboratory reflects the University's unwavering commitment to expanding access to quality higher education across Sri Lanka. Students in the Eastern Province and neighbouring regions can now complete their chemistry practical sessions at the Batticaloa Regional Centre, significantly reducing the need to travel to Colombo for laboratory-based learning.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed the University's dedication to strengthening its regional education network, ensuring that learners throughout Sri Lanka have access to modern learning facilities and high-quality higher education closer to their communities.

🌍 Empowering Futures. Enriching Lives.
📚 Bringing Quality Higher Education Closer to Every Learner.
🌱 Empowering Regions. Creating Opportunities. Shaping the Future.
