Reverse Engineering a Spur Gear using SOLIDWORKS βοΈ
As part of improving my CAD and mechanical design skills, I recently completed a reverse engineering exercise on an existing spur gear.
The process included:
* π Taking accurate physical measurements of the gear using measuring tools.
* βοΈ Identifying key parameters such as the number of teeth, bore diameter, keyway dimensions, face width, and hub dimensions.
* π» Recreating the gear as a 3D model in SOLIDWORKS based on the collected measurements.
* β
Comparing the CAD model with the original component to ensure dimensional accuracy.
This project helped me gain hands-on experience in:
* Reverse engineering methodology
* Mechanical component measurement
* Parametric CAD modeling
* Engineering drawing interpretation
* Attention to detail in design validation
Every physical component tells a story, and reverse engineering is an excellent way to understand the design decisions behind it.
I'm continuously expanding my skills in Mechanical Design, CAD Modeling, and Product Development.
