Rambadagalla Central College is situated in the rural area of Rambadagalla on the Kurunegala Keppitigala road about 25km off the town of Kurunegala in the North Western Province of Sri Lanka. Its history runs as far back as 1905 when it was first started in the Rambadagalla Estates Group as a Church Missionary School with only 10 students, controlled b
y Rev. However, with the opposition of the majority Sinhala Buddhist population in the area, another primary Buddhist school was founded in the place called Rambadagalla Baduwatta. Later in 1924 both these two small schools were amalgamated into one and brought to its present location in Rambadagalla. Fonseka, and by then the number of students had grown up to about 90. The school was run with usual ups and downs but with gradual improvement until 1930 when it was taken over by the government. By this time it had one permanent building, a student population of about two hundred and a teaching staff of six. There on the school saw an incremental growth and in 1942 it was ranked as a Senior School in the island. The school received more and more permanent buildings and grew bigger with increasing numbers of students and teaching staff to become a Maha Vidyalaya in 1961. It received the Madya Maha Vidyalaya (or Central College) status in 1994 and now it is also a Navodya School. Today it is ranked as a 1AB school in the Ministry of Education in Sri Lanka. So far there have been fourteen Principals under whose elite guidance and untiring efforts the school has come a long way in its exemplary history. The present Principal is Mr. M.D keerthirathne whose control there are about 3700 students and 100 academic staff along with a non-academic staff of about ten. The students show great success in both curricular and extra-curricular activities, producing good results at the National Examinations, and prominence in sports and other competitions. The physical resources comprise of sufficient classrooms, halls, separate rooms for practical subjects, a well-equipped science laboratory, a newly acquired library, a dental surgery and a large playground. With further assistance from the state and the Schools Development Society the school can prove itself to be one of the most successful educational institutions in the island
