This year, you aren't just attending a workshop—you are enlisting as rescue recruits in an elite task force deployed to the mysterious "Forbidden Zone" after a military transport aircraft crash simulation.

Here is exactly what this intense two-day operation covers and how it will be delivered:

📚 The Content (What You'll Learn)

Aeronautical Foundations: Master aircraft fundamentals and basic flight concepts.
Navigation Principles: Learn the core navigation principles required to plot flight paths safely.
Aviation Safety: Discover the protocols of flight safety and responsible operational decision-making.
Future Tech & Careers: Gain insights into emerging tech like unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and explore diverse career pathways in the global aerospace industry.

🛠️ Method of Delivery (How You'll Experience It)

Gamified Squadrons: Work collaboratively in assigned teams to progress through simulated rescue missions tied to an overarching storyline.
First-Hand Exposure: Tour real-world facilities including the KDU Aeronautical Laboratory, the SLAF Museum, and get up close with MI 24 helicopters.
Live Action Demos: Experience aviation in action with live engine runs and RC aircraft flying displays on the KDU cricket ground.
Practical Competitions: Apply your knowledge in real-time with a Glider Design Competition, an Aircraft Systems Challenge, and a final high-stakes team rescue mission.

Target Audience: School students from Grades 8 to 12 across Sri Lanka.
Dates: 25th & 26th of July 2026 (0800 hrs to 1700 hrs on both days).
Venue: Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS), KDU, Ratmalana.

IGNITE '26 - Awards Ceremony

The Closing Ceremony of IGNITE ’26 marked a fitting conclusion to a highly successful Engineering Exhibition and Open Day, celebrating innovation, dedication, and academic excellence.

During the ceremony, awards and certificates were presented to the winning teams and individuals, recognizing outstanding achievements across multiple categories. The event also acknowledged the invaluable contribution of the assessment panels, whose commitment and expertise ensured a fair and rigorous evaluation process in identifying emerging engineering talent.

The Faculty of Engineering extends its sincere appreciation to all assessors, exhibitors, organizers, and participants who contributed to making IGNITE ’26 a resounding success that reinforced KDU’s mission to nurture innovation, research excellence, and future engineering leaders.

Massive Public Engagement at IGNITE '26

The exhibition site of IGNITE ’26 witnessed an enthusiastic turnout from the public, including school students, school leavers, parents, academics, industry representatives, and alumni—creating a vibrant atmosphere of curiosity and engagement.

Visitors explored a wide range of innovative engineering projects, while the Vice Chancellor of KDU, together with other distinguished guests, toured the exhibition and actively interacted with exhibitors. Student teams enthusiastically explained their ideas, research methodologies, and real-world applications, making the exhibition a truly interactive learning experience.

The exhibition showcased the creativity and technical depth of KDU undergraduates alongside talented school innovators from across the country.
