On this blessed Poson Poya Day, we remember the arrival of Arahat Mahinda Thero and the noble gift of Buddhism to our motherland.

“Dreams Alive” – Marine Engineering Society’s CSR Project Brings Digital Access to Life
Date: 04th April 2025
Venue: Hindagahawewa Vidyalaya, Kuliyapitiya
The Department of Marine Engineering proudly announces the successful completion of Dreams Alive, a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative organized by the Marine Engineering Society (MRES) on 04th April 2025. The core objective of this project was to bridge the digital divide by donating ten (10) fully equipped desktop computers and establishing a state-of-the-art computer laboratory for the school students as therewere no facilities for them to enhance their knowledge on IT field.
This CSR effort was more than just a donation—it was a mission to empower young minds by providing access to essential digital tools, opening doors to knowledge, creativity, and opportunity. The newly established computer laboratory is now set to become a hub for learning, growth, and exploration for the children and youth in the area.
The Dreams Alive project was made possible through the enthusiastic involvement of the members of the Marine Engineering Society, who worked tirelessly to plan, organize, and execute the initiative. The success of this event was further supported by the generosity of several external sponsors and well-wishers, whose contributions played a vital role in bringing this dream to life.
In addition to the donation of equipment and setup of the laboratory, the day also featured a Motivational Programme conducted by both academic staff and undergraduates of the Department. The programme was carefully designed to inspire and encourage the students to pursue their dreams, take ownership of their futures, and build confidence in their ability to succeed. Interactive sessions, personal development activities, and sharing of life experiences were included to foster a positive mindset and long-term ambition among the young participants.
Speaking on behalf of the organizing team, a representative from the Marine Engineering Society expressed,
“This project reflects our commitment not only to technical excellence but also to social responsibility. We believe in using our knowledge and resources to uplift communities, and we are proud to see ‘Dreams Alive’ become a reality.”
The Department of Marine Engineering extends its sincere appreciation to all students, staff, and sponsors who contributed to this meaningful cause. Together, we continue to drive change—one initiative at a time.
