Finance Business Partner โ Innovation Group โ Melbourne.
When Republican International School opened up its doors in 1990, I was the first enrolled student. And even today, after 20 odd years leaving school, I still hold up its values proudly in all aspects of my life.
RIS certainly laid the foundations for me, the benefits came from a mix of disciplines โ I acquired vocational skills, learning traditional disciplines like Accounting, Economics, Business Studies, and supplementing with Language and Maths.
I moved to Australia in 2002 to pursue my bachelor's degree at Deakin University and decided to permanently migrate to Australia after completing my degree. I have held several senior finance roles in mid to large-size companies and currently, I hold the position of Finance Business Partner for Innovation Group. Innovation Group is a global insurer tech business โ delivering transformational expertise to the worldโs leading insurers, brokers, fleet managers, and automotive manufacturers, helping them to open growth frontiers with revolutionary solutions.
My advice to current students today is to keep an open mind, as we are in the midst of a global workplace revolution, and jobs that you will have in 5-10 yearsโ time might not even exist today. And with challenges like COVID-19, many things are hard to predict, so do not get caught up in focusing on role titles or industries, being flexible and having the ability to adapt quickly will be desirable skills. Education will be a continuous process and it is essential to make it part of your growth.
All the best.
