🪷 Rankoth Vehera – English Hist

Rankoth Vehera is one of the largest stupas in Sri Lanka and is located in the ancient city of Polonnaruwa. It was built during the reign of King Nissanka Malla in the 12th century AD.

The name “Rankoth Vehera” means “Golden Pinnacle Stupa.” It was constructed following the architectural style of the famous Ruwanwelisaya. The stupa stands about 55 meters (180 feet) high and has a diameter of approximately 169 meters (554 feet), making it the fourth-largest stupa in Sri Lanka.

According to historical records, King Nissanka Malla personally supervised the construction and often visited the site for religious observances. Rankoth Vehera remains a sacred place of worship and an important symbol of Sri Lanka’s Buddhist heritage.

🪷 රන්කොත් වෙහෙර – සිංහල ඉතිහාසය

රන්කොත් වෙහෙර ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ විශාලතම දාගැබ් අතරින් එකක් වන අතර එය පුරාණ පොළොන්නරුව නගරයේ පිහිටා ඇත. මෙය ක්‍රි.ව. 12 වන සියවසේදී නිශ්ශංක මල්ල රජතුමා විසින් ඉදිකරවන ලදී.

“රන්කොත් වෙහෙර” යන නාමයේ අර්ථය “රන් කොතක් සහිත දාගැබ” යන්නයි. මෙය රුවන්වැලිසෑය ආකෘතිය අනුව නිර්මාණය කර ඇත. මෙම මහා සෑය උසින් මීටර් 55ක් පමණ වන අතර වට ප්‍රමාණයෙන්ද ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ සිව්වන විශාලතම දාගැබ ලෙස සැලකේ.

ඓතිහාසික වාර්තා අනුව නිශ්ශංක මල්ල රජතුමා මෙම සෑයේ ඉදිකිරීම් කටයුතු පෞද්ගලිකව අධීක්ෂණය කළ අතර බොහෝ අවස්ථාවලදී මෙහි පැමිණ ආගමික වතාවත් සිදු කළේය. අද වන විටත් රන්කොත් වෙහෙර බෞද්ධයන්ගේ වන්දනාමාන ස්ථානයක් ලෙස ඉතා ගෞරවයෙන් පවතී.

🙏 Mirisawetiya Maha Seya History | මිරිසවැටිය මහා සෑයේ ඉතිහාසය 🙏

🌼 Mirisawetiya Maha Seya is one of the most sacred Buddhist stupas in the ancient city of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. It was built by King Dutugemunu in the 2nd century BC after his victory over King Elara. Mirisawetiya is considered the first great monument built by King Dutugemunu.

According to ancient chronicles, King Dutugemunu placed his royal spear, which contained sacred relics of the Buddha, near Tissa Wewa before entering the water for recreation. When he returned, the spear could not be removed. Considering this a sacred sign, the king decided to build a great stupa on that spot and enshrined the relics there.

Another tradition states that the king once ate a meal containing chili (“miris”) without first offering food to the Sangha. Feeling remorse, he built the stupa as an act of merit and repentance. This is believed to be the origin of the name Mirisawetiya.

Over the centuries, many kings restored and protected the stupa. Today, Mirisawetiya remains a revered pilgrimage site and a symbol of Sri Lanka’s rich Buddhist heritage.

🌼 මිරිසවැටිය මහා සෑය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ පුරාණ අනුරාධපුරය නගරයේ පිහිටි අතිශය පූජනීය බෞද්ධ ස්ථූපයකි. මෙය ක්‍රිස්තු පූර්ව දෙවන සියවසේදී දුටුගැමුණු මහ රජතුමා විසින් එළාර රජු පරාජය කිරීමෙන් අනතුරුව ඉදිකරන ලදී. මෙය දුටුගැමුණු රජතුමා විසින් ඉදිකළ පළමු මහා ආගමික නිර්මාණය ලෙස සැලකේ.

ඓතිහාසික වාර්තා අනුව, බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේගේ ධාතු තැන්පත් කර තිබූ රාජ දණ්ඩය තිස්ස වැව අසල තබා රජතුමා ජල ක්‍රීඩාවට ගියේය. නැවත පැමිණි විට එම දණ්ඩය ඉවත් කළ නොහැකි විය. එය පූජනීය ලකුණක් ලෙස සැලකූ රජතුමා එම ස්ථානයේ චෛත්‍යයක් ඉදිකර ධාතුන් වහන්සේ තැන්පත් කළේය.

තවත් ජනප්‍රවාදයකට අනුව, රජතුමා එක් දිනක් සංඝයා වහන්සේට පළමුවෙන් ආහාර පූජා නොකර මිරිස් අඩංගු ආහාරයක් අනුභව කළේය. ඒ පිළිබඳ පසුතැවී, පුණ්‍ය කර්මයක් ලෙස මෙම චෛත්‍යය ඉදිකළ බවත්, එම නිසා “මිරිසවැටිය” යන නාමය ලැබූ බවත් කියවේ.

ශතවර්ෂ ගණනාවක් පුරා බොහෝ රජවරුන් විසින් මෙම මහා සෑය ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණය කර ආරක්ෂා කරන ලදී. අද දක්වාම මිරිසවැටිය මහා සෑය ශ්‍රී ලාංකීය බෞද්ධ උරුමයේ ශ්‍රේෂ්ඨ සංකේතයක් ලෙස වන්දනාමානයට ලක්වේ.

🙏 Thuparamaya is the first Buddhist stupa built in Sri Lanka and one of the most sacred religious sites in the country.

It was constructed by King Devanampiya Tissa in the 3rd century BCE after the introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka by Arahat Mahinda Thero. The stupa enshrines the sacred right collarbone relic of Lord Buddha, making it one of the earliest and most revered Buddhist monuments in the world.

Located in the ancient city of Anuradhapura, Thuparamaya symbolizes the beginning of Buddhism in Sri Lanka and continues to inspire devotees and pilgrims from around the world.

ක්‍රි.පූ. 3 වන සියවසේදී, මිහිඳු මහ රහතන් වහන්සේ විසින් බුදු දහම ශ්‍රී ලංකාවට හඳුන්වා දීමෙන් අනතුරුව, දේවානම්පියතිස්ස මහ රජතුමා විසින් මෙම දාගැබ ඉදිකරන ලදී.

මෙහි තැන්පත් කර ඇත්තේ භාග්‍යවතුන් වහන්සේගේ දකුණු අකුස්ස අස්ථි ධාතුව බව විශ්වාස කෙරේ. ඒ හේතුවෙන් ථූපාරාමය ලෝකයේ ඉතා පූජනීය බෞද්ධ ස්මාරකයන් අතරින් එකකි.

අනුරාධපුර පුරාණ නගරයේ පිහිටි මෙම දාගැබ ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ බුදු දහමේ ආරම්භය සංකේතවත් කරයි.

Jetavanaramaya is one of the most magnificent Buddhist stupas in Sri Lanka and a masterpiece of ancient engineering. Located in the sacred city of Anuradhapura, this great stupa was built by King Mahasena during the 3rd century AD and later completed by King Kithsirimevan.

Originally rising to a height of about 122 meters (400 feet), Jetavanaramaya was the tallest stupa in the world and one of the tallest structures of the ancient world. Built with millions of bricks, it remains one of the largest brick monuments ever constructed.

For centuries, Jetavanaramaya has stood as a symbol of faith, devotion, and the rich Buddhist heritage of Sri Lanka. Today, thousands of devotees and visitors come to worship and admire this sacred monument.

🌼 ජේතවනාරාමය – ලොව විශිෂ්ටතම බෞද්ධ ස්මාරකයන්ගෙන් එකක් 🌼

ජේතවනාරාමය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ විශිෂ්ටතම බෞද්ධ දාගැබ් අතරින් එකක් වන අතර පුරාණ ශ්‍රී ලාංකීය ඉංජිනේරු ශිල්පයේ අසිරිමත් නිර්මාණයකි. අනුරාධපුර පූජනීය නගරයේ පිහිටි මෙම මහා සෑය ක්‍රි.ව. 3 වන සියවසේදී මහාසෙන් රජතුමා විසින් ඉදිකිරීම ආරම්භ කර පසුව කීර්ති ශ්‍රී මේඝවර්ණ රජතුමා විසින් සම්පූර්ණ කරන ලදී.

මුල් කාලයේදී අඩි 400ක් (මීටර් 122ක්) පමණ උසින් යුක්ත වූ මෙම සෑය ලෝකයේ උසම දාගැබ ලෙසත් පුරාණ ලෝකයේ උසම නිර්මාණ අතරින් එකක් ලෙසත් සැලකුණි. කෝටි ගණනක් ගඩොල් යොදා ඉදිකරන ලද මෙය ලොව විශාලතම ගඩොල් නිර්මාණ අතරින් එකකි.

සියවස් ගණනාවක් පුරා ජේතවනාරාමය ශ්‍රී ලාංකික බෞද්ධයන්ගේ ශ්‍රද්ධාව, භක්තිය හා උරුමයේ අභිමානවත් සංකේතයක් ලෙස පවතී. අදටත් දහස් සංඛ්‍යාත බැතිමතුන් මෙම පූජනීය ස්ථානය වන්දනාමානය සඳහා පැමිණෙති.

Seruwawila Mangala Raja Maha Vihara is one of the sixteen sacred Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Sri Lanka. Located in the Eastern Province, this ancient stupa is believed to enshrine a sacred frontal bone relic of Lord Buddha.

According to history, the stupa was built by King Kavantissa in the 2nd century BCE. For over two thousand years, this sacred site has inspired faith and devotion among Buddhist pilgrims.

After being hidden by the jungle for many centuries, Seruwawila was rediscovered and restored, becoming one of the most revered places of worship in Sri Lanka today.

The Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura is the oldest historically documented tree in the world. It was grown from a sacred sapling of the Bodhi Tree under which Lord Buddha attained Enlightenment in India.

The sacred sapling was brought to Sri Lanka by Sanghamitta Theri during the reign of King Devanampiya Tissa in the 3rd century BCE. For more than 2,000 years, devotees have worshipped this sacred tree with great faith and devotion.
