Sri Lanka - Japan Study Center was established in the University of Peradeniya, collaboratively with the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka. The prime objective of the SL-J Study Center is to further strenthen research collaboration between Sri Lanka and Japan.

On January 15th, 2025, the Closing Ceremony of the 2024/25 JICA Chair Programme was held in full glamour at the Oak Ray Regency, Kandy, marking the end of another enriching journey through the Japan's Modernization Studies course. This event brought together scholars, diplomats, and experts to celebrate the achievements of the participants.

The ceremony was graced by distinguished guests Mr. Naoaki Kamoshida, Minister/Deputy Head of Mission, The Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka; Ms. Yuri Ide, Senior Representative, JICA Sri Lanka Office; The Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya
and other representatives from the Embassy of Japan and JICA Sri Lanka.

A highlight of the event was the keynote address by Prof. Kazuo Konagai, Professor Emeritus at the University of Tokyo, who shared his insights on "History of Disaster Preparedness and Response in Japan."

Of the 450 participants, 75 were awarded certificates for successfully completing the course. The ceremony also celebrated the winners of the Essay Contest on Japanโ€™s Development, with three outstanding participants receiving certificates and prizes for their exceptional work.

The Sri Lanka-Japan Study Center wishes to extend a special thank you to the JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) for fully sponsoring the JICA Chair Programme, the International Relations Office (InRO) of the University of Peradeniya, and the Association of Sri Lankan Academics in Japan (SLAcJ) for their continued support.

We look forward to fostering even stronger ties between Sri Lanka and Japan through such meaningful educational collaborations.

๐ŸŒโœจ SLJCR 2024: A Landmark in Sri Lanka-Japan Research Collaboration โœจ๐ŸŒ

The SLJCR 2024 Conference was a remarkable gathering of academic brilliance, innovation, and cross-cultural collaboration. Held at the Diamond Jubilee Hall, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, and online, this event brought together researchers, academics, and students to showcase groundbreaking research and foster knowledge exchange.

This year, the conference proudly aligned with the JICA Chair Programme, adding a significant dimension to the event. Prof. Kazuo Ogata, the keynote lecturer of the JICA session, delivered an inspiring address followed by an engaging discussion session that actively involved students and participants. Prof. Piyadasa Rathnayake, the distinguished guest speaker for the conference and resource person for the JICA Chair Session Four, provided invaluable insights into the collaborative research themes.

The scientific sessions commenced at 1:00 PM, featuring three engaging tracks:

- Topic - Any topic covered under the JICA Chair Programme

- Medium - English

- Word limit - 1000 words

- Each entrant may submit only one essay

The Sri Lanka Japan Collaborative Research Conference, organized by the Sri Lanka Japan Study Centre, is set to take place on 4th December 2024 at the Diamond Jubilee Hall, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya. The conference will kick off at 9:00 AM, with scientific sessions starting at 1:00 PM.

This year's conference will cover key themes:
- Humanities and Social Sciences
- Animal Sciences and Agriculture
- Science and Technology

A special Keynote Lecture from JICA will align with the 4th JICA Chair Session, highlighting Japanese modernization. The conference will bring together prestigious professors and senior lecturers from both Sri Lanka and Japan for valuable insights and discussions. The event will be available both onsite and online.

๐ŸŒธ Third Session of the JICA Chair Programme 2024/25 ๐ŸŒธ

The JICA Chair Programme at the University of Peradeniya held its third successful session on November 20, 2024, under the theme โ€œPublic Health and Health System in Japanโ€. This insightful session featured a video lecture by Prof. Aoyama Atsuko.

Moderated by Prof. Susiji Wickramasinghe, an esteemed professor in Parasitology in the Faculty of Medicine, and coordinated by Dr. Randilini Angammana from Faculty of Dental Sciences, this session brought together students from various fields. We were thrilled by the enthusiastic participation of around 100 attendees, both in person and online, reflecting the growing interest in advancing knowledge of medicine and health systems.
