“සුභ දවසක්… සුභ අනාගතයක්…🇬🇦 "
Those words were more than a familiar farewell. They were a reflection of the hope, kindness, and vision that Mr. Somathilaka Witharane shared with generations of Sumangalians.
In the aftermath of the devastating 2004 Tsunami, when our beloved Sri Sumangala College faced one of its darkest chapters, he stood among those who helped rebuild not merely buildings, but hope, discipline, character, and a vision for a brighter future. Through his dedication, leadership, courage, and unwavering commitment to education, he played a meaningful part in shaping our school into the institution it stands as today.
His greatest legacy was not only what he accomplished, but the values he instilled in those around him — kindness in leadership, strength in adversity, humility in service, and the belief that every challenge could be turned into an opportunity for a better tomorrow.
Today, we mourn not only the loss of a respected individual, but the loss of a mentor, leader, guide, and true friend of Sri Sumangala College. His presence may no longer be among us, but his words, his values, and his contribution will continue to live through generations of Sumangalians.
Perhaps, in remembering him, we can hear those familiar words one more time:
“සුභ දවසක්…
සුභ අනාගතයක්…”
And to you, Sir, we say:
May you attain the Supreme Bliss of Nibbana.🏳️🙏
