OUR HISTORY
Rising Stars was the brainchild of late Mrs. Thomas College Mt Lavinia. She had a vision of starting up an establishment that offered the earliest form of education for the child in a secure environment with competent teachers as a service to the community. In 2001 The Montessori began with just two children which very soon increased to 20 by the end of the year. Through the Dynamic guidance of Mrs. De Alwis Rising Stars blossomed over the next two years and had expanded to four classes with 120 students and 10 teachers. The passing away of Mrs. De Alwis in 2006 was a deep loss to us all, but her children Nimantha De Alwis and Surani Michelo have continued her legacy and together with the staff of Rising Stars have made it an Educational Institute of very high standards that will take care of your child’s education through Montessori and more. THE SCHOOL:
The school is located at 22 Huludagoda Road, Mt Lavinia, Colombo, Sri Lanka which is over 1/2 Acre in footprint. Large open common garden provides ample space for common activities and sub gardens for individual class activities. Currently the school easily accommodates 8 spacious classrooms with a capacity to work with 30 children in each as prescribed by AMI. Each class includes children of different age groups (1st – 3rd year) with the aim of learning from each other. Each classroom is attended by three well trained teachers All classrooms are facilitated with AMI Montessori equipment

As our Monthly conversation we spoke about wonders of Sri Lanka today 🇱🇰

Dalada Maligawa

Located in the cool city of Kandy, this beautiful royal temple holds one of the most sacred treasures in the world: a real tooth of Lord Buddha! The tooth is kept inside special golden caskets decorated with shiny jewels. During festivals, you can hear lively drums beating and see decorated elephants marching outside!

Parakrama Samudraya

Imagine a lake so huge that it looks like a mini-ocean! That’s Parakrama Samudraya, built hundreds of years ago by a clever ancient king named Parakramabahu the Great. He wanted to collect every drop of rain so farmers would always have plenty of water to grow rice.

Sigiriya

Sigiriya is a massive, giant rock fortress that looks like something out of a storybook! A long time ago, King Kashyapa built his palace right on top of this giant rock. To get inside, visitors used to walk through the mouth of a gigantic stone lion—you can still see its huge lion paws today at the entrance!

Adam’s Peak

Adam’s Peak is a tall, holy mountain hidden in the clouds! People climb thousands of steps overnight just to reach the very top before the sun comes up. At the peak, there is a large rock shaped like a big footprint. Many people believe it belongs to Lord Buddha, while others believe it belongs to Adam or Lord Shiva!

What an experience... The Children spent the day learning about nature and natural resources and how to give back when we take from it.

The Children of Rising Stars Montessori planted seeds, harvested gotukola, learnt about the insect hotel and why it's important to nature.

The children and teachers enjoyed playing in the Muddy Puddle and also feeding the animals.

After a refreshing drink we all had a very organic lunch and headed back home.

Thank you for teaching us the importance of reduce, reuse and recycle to keep our environment clean and healthy.
