b. Multi-purpose green belt (12km in length of BMC coast) established to protect the lagoon and coastal areas, restore mangrove eco-systems & coastal bio-diversity

c. GIS-based Rapid Response System (RRS)& Knowledge Management centre for climate exacerbated disasters established at BMC & NMC with training (1 month for selected 50 participants) and equipments (building, Software, 20 computers, 10 GPS, printers, scanners, broadband facilities)

d. Disaster resilient; energy efficient; low-cost shelter adaptation training, supported by local resource based- livelihood diversifications options for 100 participants live in vulnerable areas

What is expected?

1. 3 BMC and 1 NMC Climate Resilient Adaptation Strategies and supporting Action Plans (CRASAP) developed, demonstration projects implemented and well documented, with lessons learned synthesized into a Training Manual for Sri Lankan coastal cities (output 1)

2. Documented CRASAP experiences validated with BMC/NMC stakeholders and shared through national and three Provincial level (Western, Southern and Eastern Province) consultations, with proceedings reported Prepared (output 2)

3. ‘National Statement on Climate Resilient Cities’ (NSCRS) prepared, with recommendations being mainstreamed into relevant national and sectoral policies, plans, strategies and communications; and disseminated through a national consultation to launch replication of the experiences and approach nationally (output 3)

4. CRASAP Training-of-Trainers (ToT) and demonstrative replication projects by Sri Lanka Institute of Local Government (SLILSG) conducted to build capacity in 7 replication cities to conduct V&AA and develop Climate Resilient Adaptation Strategies and supporting Action Plans
The project will document the implementation experiences and share these through a series of provincial and national consultations supported by the Ministry of Local Governance and Provincial Council and Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, and the Urban Development Authority to replicate the process and lessons learned to 7 cities; whilst advocating through development and sharing of the NSCRS for increased national climate change policy support to cities and inclusion of the CRASAP approach in urban planning and budgetary frameworks.
