In the landscape of higher education, the Dean’s Award for Best Overall Performance represents the pinnacle of undergraduate achievement. Today, March 23, 2026, as Ms. A.K.K.N. Alwis stands before the faculty and the incoming class of 2025/2026, she does more than just receive a certificate; she embodies the culmination of four years of intellectual rigor and unwavering dedication to the field of History.

Earning a Special Degree in History is a journey that demands far more than the memorization of dates and names. It requires a sophisticated command of historiography, the ability to navigate complex archival materials, and the critical thinking necessary to deconstruct long-standing narratives. For Ms. Alwis to be recognized as the top-performing final student of the 2023/2024 academic year.

The timing of this award—presented during the Inaugural Ceremony for the New Intake—is deeply symbolic. There is no greater inspiration for a first-year student than to witness the success of those who walked the path before them. Ms. Alwis serves as a "living testament" to what can be achieved through discipline and a passion for one's subject. By honoring her today, the University reinforces a culture of meritocracy and sets a high benchmark for the 2025/2026 cohort.

Success in the humanities, and specifically in History, is vital for a society that seeks to understand its identity and its future. Ms. A.K.K.N. Her achievement is a proud moment for her family, her lecturers, and the academic community at large.

එන්. එච්. ටී. අනුරුද්ධ මහතාගේ ඉල්ලීමකට අනුව, ඉතිහාසය හා පුරාවිද්‍යා අධ්‍යනාංශයේ හිටපු තාවකාලික කථිකාචාර්යවරයෙකු වන විද්‍යාපති උපාධිධාරී අමිල අනුරුද්ධ බණ්ඩාරණයක මහතා විසින් පුරාවිද්‍යා විද්‍යාර්ථීන්ගේ පුහුණු කටයුතු සඳහා අත්‍යවශ්‍ය උපකරණ කිහිපයක් පරිත්‍යාග කරන ලදී.

මෙම පරිත්‍යාගය යටතේ කැමරාවක්, ඩිජිටල් කැලිපර් යන්ත්‍රයක් සහ ඩිස්ටන්ස් මීටර් යන උපකරණ ඉතිහාසය හා පුරාවිද්‍යා අධ්‍යනාංශය වෙත ලබා දෙන ලදී. එම උපකරණ රුහුණ විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේ හිටපු තාවකාලික සහය කථිකාචාර්යවරයෙකු වන එන්. එච්. ටී. අනුරුද්ධ මහතා විසින් අංශාධිපති අචාර්ය දර්ශන බණ්ඩාර මහතා වෙත භාරදීම සිදු කරන ලදී.

ආදි විද්‍යාර්ථියෙකු වශයෙන් අමිල අනුරුද්ධ බණ්ඩාරණයක මහතා විසින් සිදු කරන ලද මෙම සත්කාරය ඉතිහාසය හා පුරාවිද්‍යා අධ්‍යනාංශය විසින් ඉතා උණුසුම් ලෙස අගය කරයි. මෙම උපකරණ භාවිතය මගින් පුරාවිද්‍යා විෂය අධ්‍යයනය හා පුහුණුව තවදුරටත් ශක්තිමත් වනු ඇතැයි අප විශ්වාස කරමු.

පුරාවිද්‍යා විෂයේ අනාගත වර්ධනය වෙනුවෙන් මෙවැනි දායකත්වයක් ලබාදීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් ඔබට සතුටුවීමට හැකියාව ලැබෙනු ඇතැයි අප බලාපොරොත්තු වෙමු.

Following a request made by Mr. N.H.T. Anuruddha, a former Temporary Assistant Lecturer at the University of Ruhuna, a donation of essential technical equipment was made to the Department of History and Archaeology.
The donation, provided by Mr. Amila Anuruddha Bandaranayaka (an M.Phil. graduate and former Temporary Lecturer of the department), included:
• A professional camera
• A digital caliper
• A distance meter
These items are vital for the practical training of archaeology students. The equipment was officially handed over by Mr. N.H.T. Anuruddha to the Head of the Department of History and Archaeology, Dr. Darshana Bandara.

The Department of History and Archaeology highly appreciates this generous contribution made by Mr. Amila Anuruddha as a distinguished alumnus. This equipment will play a significant role in promoting the field of archaeology through enhanced practical application.
