🔥 SCBA not easier than this:

A Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) is one of the most critical safety tools used by firefighters, paramedics, and seafarers. On ships, the open-circuit SCBA is standard — supplying clean air from cylinders and venting exhaled air into the atmosphere.

🔹 Main Parts of an SCBA:
• Air Cylinders – Store ~1240 L of compressed air at 200 bar (20–30 min working time).
• Harness & Backplate – Secures the set on the wearer.
• Demand Valve System – Reduces pressure & supplies air on inhalation.
• Facemask – Positive-pressure seal, visor, exhalation valve, speech diaphragm.
• Protective Hood & Carrying Bags – For transporting and deploying SCBA gear.

🔹 Key Features:
• Warning whistle activates at ~40–45 bar (≈10 minutes escape time).
• Spare cylinders + onboard compressor are required for refilling.
• Tightening mask straps must follow upper → middle → lower sequence.
• Heavy work drastically reduces usage time due to higher air consumption.

🔹 Before, During & After Use:
• Perform pre-use checks (seal test, alarm test, leak test).
• Monitor cylinder pressure; stop use if whistle activates.
• Never remove SCBA until in a safe, breathable atmosphere.
• Clean, inspect and reset the set after every use.

🔹 Routine Maintenance:
• Monthly visual inspection
• Annual check of valves, membranes & seals
• Replace exhalation disc every 2 years
• Full overhaul every 5 years

SCBA is more than equipment — it’s the line between life and death in fires, smoke-filled spaces, or toxic atmospheres. Knowing it, maintaining it, and using it correctly is non-negotiable.
