St. Mary's College, Kegalle was established in 1867 adjacent to St. Mary's Church, on the Colombo-Ka
Mary's Church, on the Colombo-Kandy road in the Kegalle district. It was Domenico Pingulani who initiated the school and was in religious missionaries between 1864 and 1880. Mary's College Kegalle was the 5th established Boys' school in Sri Lanka after the schools of Colombo, Jaffna, Kandy and Galle.

At the UAE Athletic Grand Prix, Sri Lankan athlete and alumnus of St.Mary's College Kegalle, Chamod Yodhasingha, completed the 100m event in 10.27 seconds and secured the silver medal.
