පුබ්බහාසී බුදු ගුණය යනු බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේගේ අතිශය උතුම් ගුණයකි. "පුබ්බ" යනු පෙර, "හාසී" යනු සිනාසීම යන්නයි. එනම්, කිසියම් කාරණයක් සිදුවීමට පෙර එහි ප්රතිඵලය සම්පූර්ණයෙන් දැනගෙන, කරුණාවෙන් යුතුව සිනාසෙන ස්වභාවයයි.
බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේගේ සිනහව සාමාන්ය මනුෂ්ය සිනහවක් නොවේ. උන්වහන්සේ සිනාසුණේ යම් සත්ත්වයෙකුට මහත් පිනක් සිදුවීමට, ධර්මය අවබෝධ වීමට, හෝ අනාගතයේ විශේෂ යහපතක් ලැබීමට නියමිත අවස්ථාවන්හිදීය. ඒ සිනහවට හේතුව වූ කරුණ ආනන්ද හිමියන් වැනි ශ්රාවකයන් විමසූ විට, බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේ එය පැහැදිලි කර දුන් බව බෞද්ධ ග්රන්ථවල සඳහන් වේ.
මෙම ගුණයෙන් අපට උගන්වන්නේ,
ප්රඥාවෙන් දේවල් දැකීමට,
අනාගත යහපත ගැන සිතා කටයුතු කිරීමට,
සියලු සත්ත්වයන් කෙරෙහි කරුණාවෙන් යුතුව හැසිරීමට,
සුළු දෙයක් පවා අනාගතයේ මහත් යහපතකට හේතුවිය හැකි බව විශ්වාස කර කුසල් කිරීමටයි.
පුබ්බහාසී බුදු ගුණය බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේගේ සර්වඥතා ඥානය, මහා කරුණාව සහ අසීමිත ප්රඥාව මනාව ප්රකාශ කරන අති උතුම් බුදු ගුණයකි.
The Buddha's Quality of Pubbahāsi (Smiling in Advance)
The Buddha's quality of Pubbahāsi is one of His profound and extraordinary virtues. The word "pubba" means before or in advance, while "hāsi" means to smile. Together, it refers to the Buddha's ability to smile with compassion, knowing in advance the outcome of an event through His perfect wisdom.
The Buddha's smile was never an ordinary human smile. He smiled only on special occasions, such as when He foresaw that a being was about to perform a great meritorious deed, attain the Dhamma, or receive significant spiritual benefit in the future. According to the Buddhist scriptures, whenever the Buddha smiled, disciples such as Venerable Ānanda would respectfully ask the reason, and the Buddha would explain the cause behind His smile.
This noble quality teaches us to:
- View life with wisdom rather than impulse.
- Act with foresight, considering the long-term consequences of our actions.
- Treat all beings with compassion and loving-kindness.
- Recognize that even a small wholesome deed can become the cause of great blessings in the future.
The quality of Pubbahāsi beautifully reflects the Buddha's omniscient wisdom, boundless compassion, and perfect enlightenment.
